The Rainmakers are a Kansas City, Missouri-based original Rock music, rock band, frontman, fronted by Bob Walkenhorst, which had a small string of hit record, hits in the late 1980s and early 1990s in the United States and Europe, especially Norway. Biography The Rainmakers were formed in 1983 as a three-piece bar band called "Steve, Bob and Rich", which "quickly became popular throughout the Midwest," according to one Amazon (company), Amazon review. They released one album, ''Balls,'' under this name. The addition of drummer Pat Tomek allowed Walkenhorst to switch to guitar and assume the role of frontman. The band changed their name to The Rainmakers when they were signed to PolyGram by A&R man Peter Lubin. ''The Rainmakers'' is the debut album by the Rainmakers, produced by Terry Manning and released in 1986. It is their highest-charting album on the ''Billboard'' albums chart, reaching No. 85, and contains the single "Let My People Go-Go", which reached No. 18 on the UK Singles Chart. A remastered version of the album was released in 2010 with 4 additional bonus tracks. Neil Murray (Australian Musician)
Neil James Murray (born 1956) is an Australian musician, singer-songwriter-guitarist and writer. He was a founding member of the Warumpi Band (1980–88, 1995–2000) which was the first major influential Aboriginal rock group with mostly Indigenous members. Murray was recognised as one of Australia's foremost songwriters at the APRA Awards of 1995 by winning Song of the Year for " My Island Home". Murray has had a solo career since 1989 and had issued eight studio albums by 2014. Murray regularly performed throughout Australia, either with a backing band, The Rainmakers, or solo. He undertook a series of performances with Shane Howard (ex-Goanna), as 2songmen from 2006 to 2007. Christine Anu (born 15 March 1970) is an Australian singer, songwriter and actress. She gained popularity with the cover song release of the Warumpi Band's song " My Island Home". Anu has been nominated for 17 ARIA Awards. Early life Anu was born on 15 March 1970 in Cairns, Queensland, to a Torres Strait Islander mother from Saibai. Anu attended Emmaus College in Rockhampton where she graduated from in 1987 before studying at the National Aboriginal and Islander Skills Development Association in Sydney. Music career Anu began performing as a dancer and later went on to sing back-up vocals for the Rainmakers, which included Neil Murray of the Warumpi Band. Her first recording was in 1993 with " Last Train", a dance remake of a Paul Kelly song. The follow-up, "Monkey and the Turtle", was based on a traditional story.
