Thawi Watthana District
Thawi Watthana ( th, ทวีวัฒนา, ) is one of the 50 districts (''khet'') of Bangkok, Thailand. Its neighbor, clockwise from north, are Bang Kruai district of Nonthaburi province, Taling Chan, Bang Khae, and Nong Khaem Districts of Bangkok, Sam Phran and Phutthamonthon of Nakhon Pathom province. History The district is named after Khlong Thawi Watthana, a very long ''khlong'' (canal) that runs roughly northwest-southeast through the area. It was a tambon, part of Taling Chan district of Thonburi Province in 1933. It was promoted to a district effective 6 March 1998. Administration The district is divided into two sub-districts (''khwaeng''). Chulalongkorn
Chulalongkorn ( th, จุฬาลงกรณ์, 20 September 1853 – 23 October 1910) was the fifth monarch of Siam under the House of Chakri, titled Rama V. He was known to the Siamese of his time as ''Phra Phuttha Chao Luang'' (พระพุทธเจ้าหลวง, the Royal Buddha). Chulalongkorn's reign was characterised by the modernisation of Siam, governmental and social reforms, and territorial concessions to the British and French. Khao Manee
The Khao Manee cat ( th, ขาวมณี, , lit. "white jewel"), or Khao Plort ( th, ขาวปลอด, lit. "complete white"), also known as the Diamond Eye cat, is a rare breed of cat originating in Thailand, which has an ancient ancestry tracing back hundreds of years. They are mentioned in the ''Tamra Maew'', or ''Cat Book Poems''. Khao Manee cats are pure white with a short, smooth, close-lying coat. They can have blue eyes, gold eyes or odd-eyes with one of each colour. The odd-eyed Khao Manee is the rarest variety. They are muscular, athletic cats of moderate foreign type and are reputed to be active, communicative and intelligent. Phutthamonthon
Phutthamonthon (, ; also spelled Buddha Monthon; from Sanskrit ''Buddha Máṇḍala'', 'Buddha's sphere') is a Buddhist park in Salaya subdistrict of Phutthamonthon district, Nakhon Pathom province, Thailand. The park is situated just outside the western border of Bangkok. It is highlighted by a high statue of Gautama Buddha by Corrado Feroci. The park was created in 1957 (the year 2500 in the Thai Buddhist Era) on the basis of an idea of Thailand's prime minister, Phibunsongkhram. The park covers an area of about 400 hectares, which in traditional Thai units is 2500 rai. Construction started 29 July 1955, and the park was inaugurated on the Vaisakh Bucha day, 13 May 1957. After a long pause, construction on the park resumed in 1976. The main Buddha statue was built after that time. Already designed in 1955 by art professor Silpa Bhirasri, the statue was cast in 1981. Sala Thammasop ( th, ศาลาธรรมสพน์, ) is a ''khwaeng'' (sub-district) of Bangkok's Thawi Watthana district. It has an area of 28.698 km2 (about 11 mi2). History The name ''Sala Thammasop'' refers to a 'pavilion for sermons', but in the past it was called ''Sala Tham Sop'' meaning 'funeral pavilion'. King Mongkut (Rama IV) ordered the digging of the (Khlong Maha Sawat) with ''salas'' (pavilions) along the banks of the canal.
