He is known for his contributions to the design of the modern alternating current (AC) electricity supply system. Born and raised in the Austrian Empire, Tesla first studied engineering and physics in the 1870s without receiving a degree. He then gained practical experience in the early 1880s working in telephony and at Continental Edison in the new electric power industry. Tesla is a Lunar craters, lunar impact crater that is located on the Moon's Far side (Moon), far side, just to the southeast of the larger H. G. Wells (crater), H. G. Wells. About one crater diameter to the southwest of Tesla is Kidinnu (crater), Kidinnu, and to the southeast is Van Maanen (crater), Van Maanen. The crater is named after Serbian-American inventor Nikola Tesla. Tesla is a circular, bowl-shaped feature. There are a pair of small craterlets in the southern inner wall, but the crater is otherwise free of overlapping craters of significance. Only a few tiny impacts mark the floor and remaining sides. 2244 Tesla, provisional designation , is a carbonaceous asteroid from the central region of the asteroid belt, approximately 25 kilometers in diameter.
