Televisió de Catalunya (, known by the acronym TVC) is the public broadcasting network of Catalonia, one of the seventeen autonomous communities of Spain. It is part of the Corporació Catalana de Mitjans Audiovisuals, a public corporation created by the Generalitat de Catalunya by a Founding Act in 1983. Slightly more than half of its revenue (52%) comes from public funding through the Generalitat de Catalunya, while the remaining 48% is raised through advertising, sponsorship and merchandise and original productions' sales. It is officially composed by six channels: '' TV3'', ''TV3 HD'', '' 33''/'' Super3'', '' 3/24'', ''Esport3'' and ''TV3CAT''. While the main language of all these channels is Catalan, Spanish is usually neither sub-titled nor dubbed, as it is generally accepted that all Catalan speakers are by default also Spanish speakers. Terrestrial Television
Terrestrial television or over-the-air television (OTA) is a type of television broadcasting in which the signal transmission occurs via radio waves from the terrestrial (Earth-based) transmitter of a TV station to a TV receiver having an antenna. Aranese Language
Aranese ( oc, aranés) is a standardized form of the Pyrenean Gascon variety of the Occitan language spoken in the Val d'Aran, in northwestern Catalonia close to the Spanish border with France, where it is one of the three official languages beside Catalan and Spanish. In 2010, it was declared the third official language in Catalonia by the Parliament of Catalonia. The official names of towns in Val d'Aran are Occitan; for example, the Occitan name ''Vielha'' is used on maps and road signs instead of the Catalan and Spanish ''Viella''. Aran (; ; ) (previously officially called in Occitan Val d'Aran, Catalan: ''Vall d'Aran'', Spanish: ''Valle de Arán'') is an administrative entity (formerly considered a Comarques of Catalonia, comarca) in Lleida (province), Lleida, Catalonia, Spain, consisting of the Aran Valley, in area, in the Pyrenees mountains, in the northwestern part of the province of Lleida. This valley constitutes the only contiguous part of Catalonia located on the northern side of the Pyrenees. TV3CAT was, until 29 May 2009, named Televisió de Catalunya Internacional. It was the international channel of Catalonia, Televisió de Catalunya. It is part of Corporació Catalana de Mitjans Audiovisuals (CCMA). That channel was beaming to Europe through Astra satellite and America through Hispasat satellite. Esport3 () is a TV channel of Televisió de Catalunya dedicated to sports programming. Overview Sports programming includes transmissions and sporting events, especially during prime-time on Mondays to Fridays and all weekend. The channel completes its commitment to programs that focus on the lifestyle sports, promoting emerging talents such as being in shape, health, adventure, the outdoors and extreme sports. 3/24 () is a Spanish Catalan-language free-to-air news and information network operated by Televisió de Catalunya (TVC). It was launched on 11 September 2003. History 3/24 was born on 11 September 2003 as an initiative of the Catalan public television to develop digital terrestrial television in Catalonia. However, a general lack of DVB-T set top boxes combined with slight public interest towards digital terrestrial television prompted TVC to simulcast in analogue. From its launch on 11 September 2003 until 12 June 2004, 3/24 was on air daily from 11p.m. till 8:30a.m.. The channel now operates as a regular full-time channel. Contents 3/24 devotes exclusively to live news and information, including news, traffic (morning), sports and stock markets from Bolsa de Barcelona. SX3 (), styled Super3 until 2022, is a Catalan public television channel owned by Televisió de Catalunya in Catalan language. It started broadcasting on 18 October 2009. The channel's programs are aimed at children and teenagers. It is based on the programme ''Club Super3'', that started on 11 February 1991 on TV3 and has been seen on El 33 and on K3. In contrast to K3, which broadcast children and youth programming, SX3 airs series aimed at an audience younger than 14 years. A mix of live-action originals and animated series from a wide variety of countries, including Japan, are aired, all in the Catalan language. The schedule is not differentiated by specific blocks, so programs for preschoolers, older kids and teenagers all air throughout the course of the day. El 33 () is Catalonia's second public television channel. It belongs to Televisió de Catalunya, a subsidiary of the CCMA. History The idea of a second channel in Catalonia began in 1988, with a controversy between Televisión Española, which planned to launch a third channel exclusively for Catalonia and produced solely in Sant Cugat del Vallès, but the CCRTV (Corporació Catalana de Rà dio i Televisió) had planned to launch the second channel called Canal 33. This provoked a struggle between the Spanish government and the Generalitat de Catalunya (Catalan government), which was not resolved until 1989.
