SysML Partners

	SysML Partners SysML Partners is a consortium of software tool vendors and industry leaders organized in 2003 to create the Systems Modeling Language (SysML), a dialect of UML customized for systems engineering. The consortium was founded and organized by Cris Kobryn, who previously chaired the UML 1.1 and UML 2.0 specification teams, and Sandy Friedenthal, chair of the OMG Systems Engineering Special Interest Group. The SysML Partners defined SysML as an open source specification, and their specifications include an open source license for distribution and use. The SysML Partners completed their SysML v. 1.0a specification draft and submitted it to the Object Management Group in November 2005. In recognition of their contributions to modeling, the SysML Partners were named a winner in the "Modeling Category" of the SD Times 100 for 2007. 	Cris Kobryn Cris Kobryn (1952) is an American technologist, system architect and entrepreneur who specializes in advanced software and systems development. Biography Kobryn began his software engineering career in the early 1980s specializing in AI programming languages (Prolog, Lisp, CLOS) and applications (expert systems, natural language processing). He led the applications group at Harlequin Limited that developed the Watson investigative analysis application, which was eventually acquired by Xanalys Limited. Kobryn is best known as an expert in visual modeling languages and model-driven development technologies. In 2003 he founded PivotPoint Technology, a software and systems engineering services company that focuses on model-driven development technologies. 	Object Management Group The Object Management Group (OMG) is a computer industry standardization, standards consortium. OMG Task Forces develop enterprise integration standards for a range of technologies. Business activities The goal of the OMG was a common portable and interoperable object model with methods and data that work using all types of development environments on all types of platforms. The group provides only specifications, not implementations. But before a specification can be accepted as a standard by the group, the members of the submitter team must guarantee that they will bring a conforming product to market within a year. 	UML Partners UML Partners was a consortium of system integrators and vendors convened in 1996 to specify the Unified Modeling Language (UML). Initially the consortium was led by Grady Booch, Ivar Jacobson, and James Rumbaugh of Rational Software. The UML Partners' UML 1.0 specification draft was proposed to the Object Management Group (OMG) in January 1997. During the same month the UML Partners formed a Semantics Task Force, chaired by Cris Kobryn, to finalize the semantics of the specification and integrate it with other standardization efforts.
