Swimming At The 2023 Pan American Games
Swimming competitions at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile were held between October 21 and 29, 2023 at the Aquatic Center (pool events) in Santiago, Chile, while the open water events took place at the Laguna Los Morros in San Bernado. Events Similar to the program's format in 2019, swimming featured a total of 36 events (17 each for men and women and 2 mixed), including two 10 km open-water marathons. The following events were contested (all pool events are long course, and distances are in metres): * Freestyle: 50, 100, 200, 400, 800, and 1,500; * Backstroke: 100 and 200; * Breaststroke: 100 and 200; * Butterfly: 100 and 200; * Individual medley: 200 and 400; * Relays: 4×100 free (including mixed), 4×200 free, 4×100 medley (including mixed) * Marathon: 10 kilometres Qualification A total of up to 374 swimmers will qualify in the pool and a total of up to 40 open water swimmers will qualify. David Avery Curtiss (born July 4, 2002) is an American professional swimmer. He is a US Open record holder in the 4×50-yard medley relay. At the 2019 World Junior Championships, he won the silver medal in the 50-meter freestyle. In 2021, he set a new American high school record in the 50-yard freestyle for all high school swimming, public and private, in the United States. At the 2022 World Short Course Championships, he competed in three freestyle relay events and the 50-meter freestyle, winning a bronze medal in the 4×100-meter freestyle relay. Guilherme Pereira da Costa (born 1 October 1998) is a Brazilian swimmer. He is the 400m freestyle bronze medalist at the 2022 World Championships. At the age of 16, participating in the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires, he won a silver medal in the Boys' 4 × 100 metre freestyle relay.
