Swimming At The 1991 Pan American Games
Swimming at the 11th Pan American Games was held August 12–18, 1991 in Havana, Cuba. The competition consisted of 32 events (26 individual and 6 relay); and were contested in the long course (50m) pool. Brazil's victory in the men's 4x100m freestyle relay was only the second time that the U.S. lost the gold in a relay event, at the Pan American Games. The first had been to Canada in women's 4x100m medley at the 1971 Pan American Games. It was the first time that the U.S. lost the gold medal in the men's 100 meter freestyle, after 10 straight titles. Eduardo Beca Piccinini (born 30 November 1968) is a former international butterfly swimmer from Brazil. He currently resides in Arizona, in United States, and his name illustrates the Amazon Swimming Cup. He was at the 1991 Pan American Games in Havana, where he earned a bronze medal in the 100-metre butterfly. At the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Piccinini finished 18th in the 100-metre butterfly, and 15th in the 200-metre butterfly. Piccinini was at the 1994 World Aquatics Championships, in Rome, where he finished 25th in the 100-metre butterfly, and 26th in the 200-metre butterfly. At the 1995 Pan American Games in Mar del Plata, Piccinini won a silver medal in the 100-metre butterfly and in the 4×100-metre freestyle. Curtis Myden
Curtis Allen Myden (born December 31, 1973) is a former breaststroke and medley swimmer from Canada, who competed at three consecutive Summer Olympics in 1992, 1996 and 2000. He won a total number of three medals at the Olympics, all of them bronze. Myden was one of Canada's leading swimmers in the 1990s. He was coached by Canadian coach Deryk Snelling. Eric John Namesnik (August 7, 1970 – January 11, 2006), nicknamed "Snik," was an American competition swimmer and two-time Olympic silver medalist in the men's 400-meter individual relay (1992 & 1996). Early years Namesnik was born and raised in the town of Butler, Pennsylvania, and swam for the Butler YMCA Swim team while he was growing up. He initially attended Butler Area Senior High School, transferring after his sophomore season to Spanish River Community High School in Boca Raton, Florida. Bradley Michael Bridgewater (born March 29, 1973) is an American former competition swimmer who won the gold medal in the men's 200-meter backstroke at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. Bridgewater attended Lake Mary High School in Lake Mary, Florida, and was coached by 1972 Olympic gold medalist Fred Tyler. In college, he swam for the Texas Longhorns swimming and diving team of the University of Texas from 1992 to 1994, then transferred to the University of Southern California (USC). Under Trojans coach Mark Schubert, Bridgewater earned 1995 and 1996 All-America honors in the 100- and 200-meter backstroke.
