Star Map
A star chart is a celestial map of the night sky with astronomical objects laid out on a grid system. They are used to identify and locate constellations, stars, nebulae, galaxies, and planets. They have been used for human navigation since time immemorial. Note that a star chart differs from an astronomical catalog, which is a listing or tabulation of astronomical objects for a particular purpose. Tools utilizing a star chart include the astrolabe and planisphere. History Prehistory A variety of archaeological sites and artifacts found are thought to indicate ancient made star charts. The oldest known star chart may be a carved ivory Mammoth tusk, drawn by early people from Asia who moved into Europe, that was discovered in Germany in 1979. This artifact is 32,500 years old and has a carving that resembles the constellation Orion, although it could not be confirmed and could also be a pregnancy chart. German researcher Dr Michael Rappenglueck, of the University of M ...

Star Maps (album)
''Star Maps'' is the second studio album by American alternative rock band Possum Dixon. It was released in 1996 on Interscope Records. Critical reception ''Trouser Press'' called the album a "more mature effort hatlacks some of its predecessor’s raw energy," writing that "though the stylistic expansion is admirable, Possum Dixon can’t disguise the fact that its basic strength remains stripped-down art-punk." The '' Houston Press'' wrote that the album "tears down the Southern California myth with a finality reminiscent of L.A.-bashing works such as X's ''Los Angeles'' and the Eagles' ''Hotel California'' -- though in a context and style more akin to the tense intellect of the Velvet Underground and early Talking Heads." The ''Chicago Tribune'' wrote that the band "garnishes its unassuming rockers with vibes, electric piano and mellotron to generate some unfashionably fun, tuneful bashing." ''Spin'' included the album on its list of "The 10 Best Albums You Didn't Hear in '96 ...

In a December 2010 interview, Gordon Deppe explained: "It wasn't until we recorded Imperfekt that I thought we had something. At a Spoons rehearsal, everyone went, 'wow, what's that.' And seeing that reaction got me excited. I am very self-doubting when I do anything creative, but the moment I get a little spark and some affirmation, I go, 'okay,' and will write more." According to Deppe, the remaining songs were ...
