St. Gregory's University
St. Gregory's University was a private Catholic university. It was one of the oldest institutions of higher learning in the U.S. state of Oklahoma. It had its main campus in Shawnee and an additional campus in Tulsa. The university closed its operations at the end of the fall 2017 semester. In December 2018 the sale of the Shawnee campus to Hobby Lobby was approved by the bankruptcy court. The campus was leased to Oklahoma Baptist University (OBU), a private Christian university in Shawnee. In May 2019, OBU renamed the tract as the OBU Green Campus, both in honor of the Green family, owners of Hobby Lobby, and because the color green is one of OBU’s official university colors. In December 2019, Hobby Lobby and the Green family donated the campus to OBU. OBU also retains academic records from St. Gregory's, including student transcripts. Stephen Aloysius Leven
Stephen Aloysius Leven (April 30, 1905 – June 28, 1983) was an American prelate of the Roman Catholic Church. He served as Bishop of San Angelo from 1969 to 1979. Biography Early life and education Stephen Leven was born in Blackwell, Oklahoma, to Joseph J. and Gertrude (née Conrady) Leven. One of nine children, he was raised on farms around Ponca City and Newkirk, where his father was a sharecropper. He received his early education at St. Mary's School in Ponca City and St. Francis Academy in Newkirk. He then attended St. Gregory's College in Shawnee, and later St. Benedict's College in Atchison, Kansas. He studied for the priesthood at St. Mary's Seminary in Houston, Texas, for a year before entering the American College of the Immaculate Conception in Leuven, Belgium in 1922. Mikhael Aimar Jaimez-Ruiz (born 12 July 1984) is a Venezuelan former professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper. Denise Bode (born 1954, Tulsa, Oklahoma) is a nationally recognized energy policy expert and a former Corporation Commissioner of that state. Bode since January 2009 has been chief executive officer of the American Wind Energy Association, the national trade association of the U.S. wind energy industry. Gregory Gerrer
Rev. Gregory Gerrer, OSB (July 23, 1867August 24, 1946) was a Benedictine Priest at Sacred Heart Abbey (later, St. Gregory's Abbey), artist, art historian and museum founder. Art career From 1900 to 1904, Gerrer studied art in Rome. Shortly after the election of Pope Pius X, Gerrer participated in a competition of artists to paint the official portrait of the new pope. When Pius saw the finished portrait by Gerrer, he selected it to be his portrait. Pius said that he choose it because the artist painted him true to life and did not minimize his facial warts. Gerrer also painted portraits of two World War I Choctaw code talkers: Otis Leader and Joseph Oklahombi. The largest collection of his paintings is at the Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art in Shawnee, Oklahoma.
