Spa Towns In Slovakia
In Slovakia about 1300 mineral sources providing curative water and high quality mineral water for drinking are registered. There are 21 thermal spa towns built on these mineral springs. The most visited are Piešťany, Trenčianske Teplicie, Bardejov and Dudince. Rajecké Teplice
Rajecké Teplice ( hu, Rajecfürdő) is a spa town in the Žilina District, Žilina Region in northern Slovakia. History The first reliable written record was in 1376. It has town status since 1989. Geography The town lies in the Rajčanka river valley, south of Žilina. History of the spa Located between the Lúčanská Malá Fatra and Martinské hole Hills at the valley of the Rajčanka river, the spa is marked as Thermae on a map from 1376, but a deed by Luis the Great gives the first written account of the hot water springs named Villa Tapolcha. In the donation deed made by the king Vladislaus II for Štefan Zápoľský from 1496, the spa is referred to as "possessio Thoplycza", what could mean a settlement or a hamlet. Štós
Štós (before 1973 ''Štos''; german: link=no, Stoß, earlier ''Stoos''; hu, Stósz, earlier ''Soosz'', in the Middle Ages ''Hegyalja'') is a village and municipality in Košice-okolie District in the Košice Region of eastern Slovakia. It is one of several towns in Bodva Valley. Other towns in Bodva Valley include: Jasov, Lucia Bania, Medzev (Metzenseifen), and Vyšný Medzev (Upper Metzenseifen). History The village developed from an old Slav mining settlement. After the Mongol invasion of 1241, the depopulated region was resettled by German settlers. The place-name derives from the German family name Stoss. In 1341 many privileges were given to German miners. The village passed to Jasov and in 1427 to Smolník. After that, it belonged to the local lord Ján Baglos. Štrbské Pleso
Štrbské pleso (, german: Tschirmer See, pl, Szczyrbskie jezioro, hu, Csorbató or ) is a picturesque mountain lake of glacial origin and a top tourist destination in the High Tatras, Slovakia. It is the second-largest glacial lake on the Slovak side of the High Tatras, after Veľké Hincovo pleso. Maximum depth is 20 metres (66 ft). Description Štrbské pleso is now part of the neighborhood of Štrbské Pleso (spelled with a capital ''P''). It is on the municipal lands of the village of Štrba, after which Štrbské pleso ("Lake Štrba") is now named. The word ''pleso'' ("tarn") is applied only to mountain lakes. Turčianske Teplice
Turčianske Teplice (german: Bad Stuben; hu, Stubnyafürdő) is a town in central Slovakia in the Žilina Region. It is about halfway between Martin and Kremnica. The town's population is around 6,500. The town was the historic center of the Upper Turiec subregion within the Turiec region (comitatus), and now enjoys the status of a capital of the Turčianske Teplice District. History The town is one of the oldest spa towns in Europe, and was originally known as ''Štubnianske Teplice''. It was first mentioned in text dating from 1281 when King Ladislaus IV of Hungary granted the lands surrounding the springs to a Count Peter. The spa became popular with royalty, including King Sigismund of Hungary and Emperor Maximilian I of Mexico. Trenčianske Teplice
Trenčianske Teplice (german: Trentschin-Teplitz; hu, Trencsénteplic) is a health resort and small spa town in western Slovakia, in the valley of the river Teplička, at the foothills of the Strážovské vrchy mountains, a few kilometres away from the city of Trenčín. Characteristics The town of Trenčianske Teplice is known not only for its thermal springs and the health resorts, but also for an international film festival Art film and the Bridge of Fame. Sklené Teplice
Sklené Teplice (german: Glasshütte, hu, Szklenófürdő) is a small spa village and municipality in Žiar nad Hronom District in the Banská Bystrica Region of central Slovakia. It is close to the historic town of Banská Štiavnica. History In historical records the village was mentioned for the first time in 1340 and was founded by Glaser Filius Gerhardi de Doplicze. Historical records for the spa come from 1549 in the chronicles of Juraj Wernher. The first spa was built in this valley in 1701. Aristocratic travelers from across Europe visited the site. The spa community achieved prominence on August 27, 1786 when the world's first academic scientific congress was held here.
