Southland Conference Softball Tournament
The Southland Conference softball tournament is the conference championship tournament in college softball for the Southland Conference (SLC). It is a double-elimination tournament and seeding is based on regular season records. The winner receives the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division I Softball Championship, NCAA Division I softball tournament. Tournament The Southland Conference softball tournament is a double-elimination tournament held each year at various SLC campus stadiums. The top seven SLC softball teams participate in the tournament (barring NCAA sanctions). Of the ten current members, only the New Orleans Privateers, University of New Orleans does not sponsor softball. History The tournament was first held in 1983 when the conference began sponsoring softball. The tournament was not held from 1991 to 1995 and was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Softball
Softball is a game similar to baseball played with a larger ball on a smaller field. Softball is played competitively at club levels, the college level, and the professional level. The game was first created in 1887 in Chicago by George Hancock. There are two rule sets for softball generally: ''slow pitch softball'' and ''fastpitch''. Slow pitch softball is commonly played recreationally, while women's fastpitch softball is a Summer Olympic sport and is played professionally. Depending on the variety being played and the age and gender of the players, the particulars of field and equipment vary. While distances between bases of 60 feet are standard across varieties, the pitcher's plate ranges from 35 to 43 feet away from home plate, and the home run fence can be 220 to 300 feet away from home plate. ULM Softball Complex
The Geo-Surfaces Field at the ULM Softball Complex is the home stadium for the Louisiana–Monroe Warhawks softball team. Located on the campus of the University of Louisiana at Monroe, the area the complex is built on was the former home of the Louisiana–Monroe Warhawks baseball team until the early 1980s. The complex utilizes bleacher seating, and has a capacity for over 500 people, as well as room for additional seating space along both foul lines. Colonels Softball Complex
Swanner Field at Geo Surfaces Park is a softball venue in Thibodaux, Louisiana, United States. It is home to the Nicholls Colonels softball team of the NCAA Division I Southland Conference. The venue has a capacity of 500. History The park opened in 1981 was formerly named Colonels Softball Diamond and Colonels Softball Complex. Prior to the 2018 season, the park underwent major renovations. It included a new synthetic turf infield by Geo Surfaces, new lights and renovated dugouts and seating. The renovations were funded by donations from Neal Swanner and the Norman Swanner Foundation. In honor of those donations, the playing surface was named Swanner Field. The Nicholls Colonels softball team represents Nicholls State University in NCAA Division I college softball. The team participates in the Southland Conference. Nicholls' first softball team was fielded in 1981. The team plays its home games at 500-seat Swanner Field at Geo Surfaces Park and are coached by Angel Santiago. Texas State Bobcats
The Texas State Bobcats are the sports teams that represent Texas State University. Currently, they compete in the Sun Belt Conference in NCAA Division I (Football Bowl Subdivision for football). The Bobcat has been the mascot of Texas State University since 1921, when the university adopted the name from the recommendation of a committee formed to raise school spirit. Though considerably smaller than mountain lions, bobcats are known for their stubborn fierceness and great courage. Lady Demon Diamond is the home stadium for the Northwestern State Lady Demons softball team. Located across the street from Prather Coliseum on the campus of Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana, the stadium features seating for 1,000 fans. Included in the 1,000 seat capacity is a combination of partially covered chairback and bleacher seats. The Sam Houston Bearkats softball team represents Sam Houston State University in NCAA Division I college softball. The team participates in Conference USA.
