Somerset County is a county in the U.S. state of Maine, United States. As of the 2020 census, its population was 50,477. Its county seat is Skowhegan. History Somerset County was established on March 1, 1809from portions of Kennebec County and was named after Somerset County in England. Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of , of which (4.1%) are covered by water. It is the third-largest county in Maine by area. The Armstrong–Jackman Border Crossing is a border crossing on the Canada–United States border, located southeast of Saint-Théophile, Québec, and northwest of Jackman, Maine. The border crossing is the northern terminus of U.S. Route 201, which also has the road name Old Canada Road north of Jackman, and the southern terminus of Quebec Route 173, also known as Route-du-Président-Kennedy - the existing Quebec Autoroute 73 already heads in the direction of this US/Canadian border crossing, as the closest Canadian freeway of any kind in the area. State Route 139 (SR 139) is a state highway traveling from U.S. Route 2 (US 2) and US 201A in Norridgewock at its western terminus to US 1A in Winterport at its eastern terminus. Route description SR 139 begins at an intersection with U.S. Route 201A, U.S. Route 2, and SR 8 in Norridgewock. The intersection of SR 139 and U.S. Route 2 is notorious for being one of the most dangerous intersections in central Maine. Maine State Route 137
State Route 137 (SR 137) is a route that runs for west to east that begins at the intersection of U.S. Route 2 (US 2) in Mercer and covers a large expanse of land, ending in the city of Belfast at an interchange with US 1 and SR 3. SR 137 is the main road in the communities of Smithfield and Oakland, near the western terminus of the route. SR 137 bypasses the downtown area of Waterville while SR 137 Business travels directly through it. State Route 15 (SR 15) is a numbered state highway in Maine, United States. SR 15 runs over from Stonington in the south to Jackman in the north. Route description SR 15 begins in the town of Stonington, at the intersection of Main Street, School Street, and West Main Street.
