Six Sigma
Six Sigma (6σ) is a set of techniques and tools for process improvement. It was introduced by American engineer Bill Smith while working at Motorola in 1986. Six Sigma strategies seek to improve manufacturing quality by identifying and removing the causes of defects and minimizing variability in manufacturing and business processes. This is done by using empirical and statistical quality management methods and by hiring people who serve as Six Sigma experts. Each Six Sigma project follows a defined methodology and has specific value targets, such as reducing pollution or increasing customer satisfaction. The term ''Six Sigma'' originates from statistical quality control, a reference to the fraction of a normal curve that lies within six standard deviations of the mean, used to represent a defect rate. PDCA
PDCA or plan–do–check–act (sometimes called plan–do–check–adjust) is an iterative design and management method used in business for the control and continual improvement of processes and products. It is also known as the Shewhart cycle, or the control circle/cycle. Another version of this PDCA cycle is OPDCA. Mikel Harry
Mikel J. Harry (born: December 28, 1951; died: April 15, 2017) was a prolific author who is credited for developing Six Sigma, along with Bill Smith. Harry was sometimes referred to as the 'father of Six Sigma'. One of his books, ''Six Sigma: The Breakthrough Management Strategy Revolutionizing the World’s Top Corporations'' (published by Crown Business, 2000) has been on the bestseller list of The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg Businessweek and Amazon.com. He graduated with a PhD from Mary Lou Foulton Teachers College. At the age of 65, he died on 25 April 2017, in Chandler, Arizona.
