Shumsk
Shumsk (, ; ; ) is a city in Kremenets Raion, Ternopil Oblast, Ukraine. It hosts the administration of Shumsk urban hromada, one of the hromadas of Ukraine. Population is Until 18 July 2020, Shumsk was the administrative center of Shumsk Raion. The raion was abolished in July 2020 as part of the administrative reform of Ukraine, which reduced the number of raions of Ternopil Oblast to three. The area of Shumsk Raion was merged into Kremenets Raion. Etymology The name "Shumske" was officially used starting in 1944 when Shumske lost its city status but became the center of a newly formed district due to the division of the former Kremenets County in Volyn Voivodeship of Poland. On September 17, 1939, as part of Western Ukraine, Shumske was annexed by the Soviet Union's forces following the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact. Kremenets Raion () is a raion (district) in Ternopil Oblast of western Ukraine. The administrative center is the city of Kremenets. Population: On 18 July 2020, as part of the administrative reform of Ukraine, the number of raions of Ternopil Oblast was reduced to three, and the area of Kremenets Raion was significantly expanded. Nikolay Alekseyevich Soltys (May 19, 1974 – February 13, 2002) was a Ukrainian fugitive charged by the United States District Court for the Eastern District of California in a Federal Bureau of Investigation arrest warrant. The federal charges were for Unlawful Flight to Avoid Prosecution and there were California arrest warrants for six murders of his family members in and around the Sacramento area in August 2001. Konstantin Igelström
Konstantin Gustavovich Igelström (; 1799 - 1851) Russian Decembrist from the noble Swedish family of Igelström. Konstantin Igelstrom was born in the city of Shumsk on 8 May 1799. He graduated from the Cadets Corps in 1816 and was made captain in 1825. Jan Savitt (born Jacob Savetnick; September 4, 1907 – October 4, 1948), known as "The Stokowski of Swing", from having played violin in Leopold Stokowski's orchestra, was an American bandleader, musical arranger, and violinist. Early life and education Savitt was born in Shumsk, then part of the Russian Empire (now part of Ukraine) and reared in Philadelphia. He evidenced musical ability an early age and began winning conservatory scholarships in the study of the violin. He was offered the position of concert master in Leopold Stokowski's Philadelphia Symphony Orchestra, but turned it down, preferring to continue his studies at Curtis Institute.
