Noel Sheehy
Noel Sheehy (Nollaig Mac an tSíthigh) (born 5 December 1964) is an Irish retired hurler. His league and championship career with the Tipperary senior team lasted twelve seasons from 1985 to 1997. Sheehy first appeared for the Sivermines club at juvenile and underage levels, before eventually joining the club's adult team. After winning five divisional intermediate championship medals, he ended his club career by winning a county intermediate championship medal in 1999. Sheehy made his debut on the inter-county scene when he was selected for the Tipperary minor team. He enjoyed two championship seasons with the minor team, culminating with the winning of an All-Ireland medal in 1982. Sir Christopher Sheehy OBE (25 December 1894 – 31 August 1960) was one of Queensland's and Australia's leading dairy industry administrators. Eugene J. Sheehy (born 1954 in Carlow, Ireland) was Group Chief Executive of Allied Irish Banks Plc. He was educated at The Christian Brothers in Carlow and then Salesian College, Limerick. He joined AIB in 1971 when he was 17 years old and spent 20 years in retail banking, including branch manager appointments in a number of Dublin branches at Capel Street, Dame Street and Phibsborough. He completed an M.Sc. in Organizational Behavior at Trinity College, Dublin in 1992. He executed a radical overhaul of AIB's branch banking operation in 1992 which entailed new and, in the view of many, unpopular changes to work practice. Owen Lancelot Sheehy-Skeffington (19 May 1909 – 7 June 1970) was an Irish university lecturer and senator. The son of pacifists, feminists and socialists Francis and Hanna Sheehy-Skeffington, he was politically likeminded and as a member of the Irish Senate was praised as a defender of civil liberty, Democracy, separation of church and state, freedom of speech, women's rights, minority rights and many other liberal values. Hanna Sheehy-Skeffington
Johanna Mary Sheehy Skeffington (née Sheehy; 24 May 1877 – 20 April 1946) was a suffragette and Irish nationalist. Along with her husband Francis Sheehy Skeffington, Margaret Cousins and James Cousins, she founded the Irish Women's Franchise League in 1908 with the aim of obtaining women's voting rights. She was later a founding member of the Irish Women Workers' Union. Her son Owen Sheehy-Skeffington became a politician and Irish senator. Father Eugene Sheehy (25 December 1841 – July 1917) was a priest, president of the local branch of the Irish National Land League at Kilmallock, and founder member of the Gaelic Athletic Association. He was known as the "Land League priest", and his activities landed him in prison. He educated Éamon de Valera who went on to be president of Ireland. Father Nicholas Sheehy (1728–1766) was an 18th-century Irish Roman Catholic priest who was executed on the charge of accessory to murder. Father Sheehy was a prominent and vocal opponent of the Penal Laws, which disenfranchised and persecuted Catholics in Ireland. His conviction is widely regarded as an act of judicial murder amongst supporters of the Irish rebellion. Background During this time, famine caused much suffering and death in Ireland. Adding to the social unrest was a rumour that the Catholic French would invade Ireland. Timothy Kane "Tim" Sheehy (born September 3, 1948) is a Canadian born American ice hockey player. Sheehy played Minnesota high school hockey for International Falls before joining the Boston College men's ice hockey team. Sheehy, who has dual citizenship, also played for the American national team 1969 and 1971 World Championships as well as the 1972 Winter Olympic Games, where he won a silver medal. Playing career Sheehy was signed by the World Hockey Association's New England Whalers after the Olympics and later also played 433 games for the WHA Edmonton Oilers and Birmingham Bulls before moving on to the National Hockey League where he played a total of 27 games for the Detroit Red Wings and Hartford Whalers before retiring from professional hockey in 1980.
