Heterometrus
''Heterometrus'', whose members are also known by the collective vernacular name giant forest scorpions, is a genus of scorpions belonging to the family Scorpionidae. It is distributed widely across tropical and subtropical southeastern Asia, including Indonesia, Brunei, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Vietnam, India ( Nicobar Islands, Andaman Islands), and China (Hainan). It is notable for containing some of the largest living species of scorpions. Taxonomy The genus was introduced by C.G. Ehrenberg (in Hemprich & Ehrenberg, 1828), originally as a subgenus of the genus '' Buthus''. It was elevated to genus rank by F. Karsch in 1879. H.W.C. Couzijn (1978, 1981) subdivided the genus into several subgenera, but F. Kovařík (2004) synonymized these subgenera with the nominal genus. In 2020 the genus was reviewed by L. Prendini & S. F. Loria, three of the former subgenera were revalidated and elevated to genera and one valid subgenus was ...

Pandinus
''Pandinus'' is a genus of large scorpions belonging to the family Scorpionidae. It contains one of the most popular pet scorpions, the emperor scorpion (''P. imperator''). The genus is distributed across tropical Africa. Taxonomy The genus was introduced in 1876 by Tamerlan Thorell. Subsequent research subdivided the genus into five subgenera. In 2015 all five subgenera were raised to genus level. Diversity Currently, 4 species are recognized within this genus: *'' Pandinus gambiensis'' Pocock, 1899 *'' Pandinus imperator'' (C. L. Koch, 1841) *'' Pandinus ugandaensis'' Kovarik, 2011 *'' Pandinus ulderigoi'' Rossi, 2014 General characteristics Members of ''Pandinus'' are generally large scorpions (about 120–200 mm total length), which are dark to black colored, sometimes with paler metasoma and legs. The pedipalp pincers are massive, while the metasoma is proportionally thin with a small vesicle and stinger (aculeus). They possess a stridulatory organ, composed of a ro ...

Scorpio (genus)
''Scorpio'' is a genus of scorpions belonging to the family Scorpionidae. The species in this genus are found in northern Africa and western Asia. Species ''Scorpio'' was regarded as a monotypic genus for a long time, containing one widespread and highly variable species, ''S. maurus'', which had many subspecies. It has since been recognised that within ''S. maurus'' ''sensu lato'' there were a number of taxa which should be regarded as valid species and new species have been described from sub-Saharan Africa: * '' Scorpio birulai'' Fet, 1997 * '' Scorpio fuliginosus'' ( Pallary, 1928) * '' Scorpio hesperus'' Birula, 1910 * '' Scorpio maurus'' Linnaeus, 1758 * '' Scorpio mogadorensis'' Birula, 1910 * '' Scorpio niger'' Lourenço & Cloudsley-Thompson, 2012 * '' Scorpio punicus'' Fet The field-effect transistor (FET) is a type of transistor that uses an electric field to control the flow of current in a semiconductor. Scorpion Families
Scorpions are predatory arachnids of the order Scorpiones. They have eight legs, and are easily recognized by a pair of grasping pincers and a narrow, segmented tail, often carried in a characteristic forward curve over the back and always ending with a stinger. The evolutionary history of scorpions goes back 435 million years. They mainly live in deserts but have adapted to a wide range of environmental conditions, and can be found on all continents except Antarctica. There are over 2,500 described species, with 22 extant (living) families recognized to date. Their taxonomy is being revised to account for 21st-century genomic studies. Scorpions primarily prey on insects and other invertebrates, but some species hunt vertebrates. They use their pincers to restrain and kill prey, or to prevent their own predation. The venomous sting is used for offense and defense. During courtship, the male and female grasp each other's pincers and dance while he tries to move her onto his spe ...
