Jacob Safra
Jacob Safra ( ar, يعقوب صفرا; 1891 – 27 May 1963) was a Syrian-Lebanese banker. The Safras were bankers and gold traders engaged in the financing of trade between Beirut, Aleppo, Istanbul and Alexandria. Biography The Safra family was originally a merchant Jewish family of northern Lebanon, Lebanon, which historically made its money from financing the caravans of the Middle East. When the Ottoman Empire fell apart in 1918, Jacob Safra, opened the family bank in the 1920s in Beirut, building on the Safras' long experience in gold and currency exchange. With its base in Lebanon, the ' became the bank of choice for many of Syria's and Lebanon's rich Sephardic Jewish families, who trusted the Safras to manage their business and personal financial interests with care and discretion. Edmond Safra
Edmond J. Safra ( ar, ادموند يعقوب صفرا; 6 August 1932 – 3 December 1999) was a Lebanese-Brazilian banker who continued the family tradition of banking in Brazil and Switzerland. He was married to Lily Watkins from 1976 until his death. He died in a fire that attracted wide media interest, and was judicially determined to be due to arson. Biography The Safra family came from Beirut, Lebanon and is of Sephardic Jewish background originally from Lebanon and Aleppo. Edmond's father, Jacob Safra, had opened the J. E. Safra ( ar, صفرا) is a Mediterranean Lebanese village, located at the middle of the Lebanese coast. Its morphology is rich with natural valleys. Safra is known by its strategic location, old houses and beach resorts. It has a municipality in the Keserwan District of the Keserwan-Jbeil Governorate in Lebanon. It is located 29 kilometers north of Beirut. The village has a land area of 306 hectares.
