The Hockey Club SKA-1946 Saint Petersburg (russian: link=no, Хоккейный клуб "СКА-1946" Санкт-Петербург), is a Russian junior ice hockey club based in Saint Petersburg, Russia. They are members of the Western Conference in the Junior Hockey League (MHL), the junior league of the KHL. History The club was established in 2009 to participate in the MHL. The club was named SKA-1946 after the establishment year of SKA Saint Petersburg, which the club has considered as one of their affiliates. In April 2015, the team reached the Kharlamov Cup finals and become the vice-champion for the first time in their history. Sport in Saint Petersburg has a long tradition, back to the founding days of Saint Petersburg in the early 18th Century. The Almaz (russian: Алмаз, lit=Diamond) program was a highly secret Soviet military space station program, begun in the early 1960s. Three crewed military reconnaissance stations were launched between 1973 and 1976: Salyut 2, Salyut 3 and Salyut 5. To cover the military nature of the program the three launched Almaz stations were designated as civilian Salyut space stations. Salyut 2 failed shortly after achieving orbit, but Salyut 3 and Salyut 5 both conducted successful crewed testing. 2012–13 MHL Season
The 2012–13 Maritime Junior Hockey League season was the 46th season in league history. The season consisted of 52 games played by each MHL team. Upon completion of the regular season, the top qualifying teams will play down for the Kent Cup, the league's playoff championship trophy. The Kent Cup champion will then meet the top teams of the Quebec Junior AAA Hockey League and Central Canada Hockey League in a host city to determine the Eastern Canadian Fred Page Cup champion. The Summerside Western Capitals won the 2013 Kent Cup by losing only 1 game throughout the entire MHL playoffs. The Fred Page Cup was hosted and won by the Truro Bearcats in 2013 with the Summerside Western Capitals the runners-up.
