Cheikh Sarr (basketball)
Dr. Cheikh Sarr (born 25 July 1968) is a Senegalese professional basketball coach. He is the current coach for the Rwanda national basketball team. Sarr coached Senegal at the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup. Early life Sarr is a native of Joal-Fadiouth where he was born. He went to "CAMP GMI -Thies" primary school, before continuing his middle school classes at Amady Coly Diop (ex Camp Faidherbe). Sarr finished his high school degree at the Lycee Malick Sy where he earned a bachelor's degree. At his younger age, he played many sports (Volleyball, handball, soccer, high jump, etc.) but basketball was his favorite. Sarr spent all his youth playing at US Rail Club in Thiès Region, under coach Gora Mbaye. When he reached 18 years old, he decided to stop playing in order to focus on his studies. AfroBasket Women
The AfroBasket Women (formerly FIBA Africa Championship for Women) is the women's basketball continental championship of Africa, played biennially under the auspices of FIBA, the world sports governing body, governing body for basketball, and the FIBA Africa, African zone thereof. 2009 FIBA Africa Championship For Women
The 2009 FIBA Africa Championship for Women is the 19th continental championships held by FIBA Africa. The championship will serve as a qualifying tournament for the 2010 FIBA World Championship for Women in the Czech Republic. 2011 FIBA Africa Championship For Women
The 2011 FIBA Africa Championship for Women (alternatively the FIBA African Championship) was the 20th FIBA Africa Championship for Women, played under the auspices of the Fédération Internationale de Basketball, the basketball sport governing body, and the African zone thereof. At stake was the berth allocated to Africa in the 2012 Summer Olympics basketball tournament. The tournament was held from September 23–October 2 in Mali. 2023 Women's Afrobasket
The 2023 AfroBasket Women was the 28th edition of the tournament and held from 28 July to 5 August 2023 in Kigali, Rwanda. Nigeria won their fourth consecutive and sixth overall title after defeating Senegal in the final. Format The 12 teams were split into four groups of three teams. The first-placed team qualified to the quarterfinals while the other two teams played in a playoff round. A second-placed team faced off against a third-placed team and vice versa. A knockout-system was used after the preliminary round and the losing teams of the quarterfinals were playing classification games while the winners played out the champion.
