National Sports Awards are given by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Government of Bangladesh for specific contributions in the field of games and sports. The award was introduced in 1976. As of 2011, total 175 sports personalities won the award. Awards The awardees include the organisers of games and sports, and the individuals displaying extraordinary performances in football, hockey, cricket, swimming, shooting, chase, and athletics. Each awardee is entitled to a gold medal and twenty thousand taka in cash. Next the amount of cash was increased to tk 50,000 in May 2017 and now tk 1,00,000 each from November 2019. Raquib Khandaker
Abdur Raquib Khandaker was the Inspector General of Bangladesh Police. Early life Khandaker graduated from Notre Dame College, Dhaka. He studied economics at the University of Dhaka and briefly taught at Notre Dame College, Dhaka. Career Khandaker joined the Police Service of Pakistan in 1956. Khandaker served as the Superintendent of Police in Khulna District in 1971 during the Bangladesh Liberation War. In 1974, Khandaker sustain an injury from an accident while on duty which affected him for the rest of his life. From 1976 to 1986, Khandaker served as the president of Bangladesh Football Federation. In 1976, he was the Deputy Inspector General of Police stationed in the police headquarters in Dhaka. Mohammad Aminul Islam ( bn, মোহাম্মদ আমিনুল ইসলাম; born 2 February 1968) is a former Bangladeshi cricketer and captain. Aminul scored the first hundred for the Bangladesh cricket team when Bangladesh played their first Test against India thus becoming only the third cricketer after Charles Bannerman and Dave Houghton to score centuries on their own and their country's test debut. Jahangir Shah
Jahangir Shah Badsha (born 19 July 1949 in Kushtia) is a former Bangladeshi cricketer who played in 5 ODIs from 1986 to 1990. He is sometimes known on scoresheets by his nickname Badshah. Shah made his debut in the national side in 1979, and until his retirement in 1990, he was the most reliable all-rounder of the side. He was team's most effective new ball bowler, and as a batsman he contributed in different positions, as a tail ender, as a night watchman and occasionally as an opener as well. He was one of the players who took part in Bangladesh's first ever official ODI (against Pakistan at Moratuwa in 1986). Though he was out for a duck, he took 2/23 from 9 overs. Minhajul Abedin Nannu ( bn, মিনহাজুল আবেদিন নান্নু; born 25 September 1965) is a former Bangladeshi cricketer who played in 27 One Day Internationals from 1986 to 1999. Khandoker Mohammad Nurunnabi (31 July 1946 – 8 December 2016) was a Bangladesh Army Major General who served in the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971. He was awarded the National Sports Awards in 2002, for his contribution to Bangladeshi football as a member of the Shadhin Bangla football team. Mohammad Asif Hossain Khan ( bn, আসিফ হোসেন খান) is a Bangladeshi shooter. He won the gold medal at 2002 Commonwealth Games in 10 m Air Rifle and repeated his success in the 2004 SAF games by winning gold in the same event.
