Pyroderces Aellotricha
''Pyroderces aellotricha'', also known as the Cosmet moth, is a moth of the family Cosmopterigidae. It is found in New Zealand, in Australia and the Cook Islands. Taxonomy This species was first described by Edward Meyrick in 1889 and named ''Proterocosma aellotricha''. Meyrick, when first describing the species, used two specimens collected in Hamilton in January. In 1915 Meyrick placed this species within the genus ''Pyroderces''. The female lectotype, collected in Hamilton, is held at the Natural History Museum, London. Description Meyrick described the species as follows: Distribution This species is found in New Zealand, including at the Kermadec Islands, in Tasmania, Australia and in Rarotonga in the Cook Islands. Other than its type locality it has also been collecting in Whangārei. Hosts The larvae of this species feed on ripening seed heads of raupō, and stored maize Maize (; ''Zea mays''), also known as corn in North American English, is a tall stout ...

Pyroderces Apparitella
''Pyroderces apparitella'' is a species of moth in the family Cosmopterigidae. It is Endemism, endemic to New Zealand and has been observed in the North Island where it is regarded by some as being not common. The preferred habitat of this species is native forests and residential gardens. Adults are on the wing in December and January and the species is attracted to light. Taxonomy This species was first described by Francis Walker (entomologist), Francis Walker in 1864 using a female specimen obtained from D. Bolton in Auckland and named ''Gelechia apparitella''. The holotype specimen is held at the Natural History Museum, London. In 1889 Edward Meyrick placed this species within the genus ''Proterocosma''. However, in 1928 George Hudson (entomologist), George Hudson discussed and illustrated the species under the name ''Pyroderces apparitella''. John S. Dugdale affirmed the placement of this species in the genus ''Pyroderces'' in 1988. In 2019, in a publication by Alan Emmers ...
