The Party of Proletarian Unity (french: Parti de l'Unité Prolétarienne, ''PUP'') was a French socialist political party. History It was formed on December 21, 1930 by leftists expelled from the French Communist Party (PCF), together with some who had previously belonged to the left-wing of the Section française de l'Internationale ouvrière (SFIO). Its members were known in France as ''pupistes'', and one of its notable leaders was Alexandre Bachelet. At one time, the party held ten seats in the Chamber of Deputies of the Third Republic. The PUP affiliated to the London Bureau of left-socialist parties. On January 31, 1937, it voted to rejoin the SFIO. The Proletarian Unity Party (Italian language, Italian: ''Partito di Unità Proletaria'', PdUP) was a far-left political party in Politics of Italy, Italy. Origins The PdUP was founded in the November 1972 by minority factions of two parties: the New PSIUP, led by Vittorio Foa and Silvano Miniati, that gathered the militants of the right wing of the Italian Socialist Party of Proletarian Unity who had not agreed on the decision to join the Italian Communist Party, and Socialist Alternative (Italy), Socialist Alternative, led by Giovanni Russo Spena and philosopher Domenico Jervolino, that gathered the militants of the left wing of the Workers' Political Movement who had opposed the merge into the Italian Socialist Party (PSI).
