Prioninae
The Prioninae are a subfamily of Cerambycidae (long-horned beetles). They are typically large (25–70 mm) and usually brown or black. The males of a few genera sport large mandibles that are used in fights with other males, similar to stag beetles. These beetles are commonly nocturnal and are attracted to light. The majority of the Prioninae whose biology is known are borers whose larvae feed on rotting wood or roots. Genera The following genera are recognised in the subfamily Prioninae: * '' Acalodegma'' * '' Acanthinodera'' * '' Acanthophorus'' * '' Acideres'' * '' Aegolipton'' * '' Aegosoma'' * '' Aerogrammus'' * ''Aesa'' * '' Afraustraloderes'' * '' Agrianome'' * '' Allaiocerus'' * '' Allomallodon'' * '' Anacolus'' * '' Analophus'' * '' Ancistrotus'' * '' Andinotrichoderes'' * '' Anoeme'' * '' Anomophysis'' * '' Anomotoma'' * '' Anoplotoma'' * '' Anthracocentrus'' * '' Aplagiognathus'' * '' Apocaulus'' * '' Apterocaulus'' * '' Arba'' * '' Archetypus'' * '' Archodontes' ...

Cerambycidae
The longhorn beetles (Cerambycidae), also known as long-horned or longicorns, are a large family of beetles, with over 35,000 species described. Most species are characterized by extremely long antennae, which are often as long as or longer than the beetle's body. In various members of the family, however, the antennae are quite short (e.g., '' Neandra brunnea'') and such species can be difficult to distinguish from related beetle families such as the Chrysomelidae. The scientific name of this beetle family goes back to a figure from Greek mythology: after an argument with nymphs, the shepherd Cerambus was transformed into a large beetle with horns. Description Other than the typical long antennal length, the most consistently distinctive feature of the family is that the antennal sockets are located on low tubercles on the face; other beetles with long antennae lack these tubercles, and cerambycids with short antennae still possess them. They otherwise vary greatly in size, shap ...

Acanthophorus
''Acanthophorus'' is a genus of prionine longhorn beetles from the Indian subcontinent. It is monotypic, being represented by the single species ''Acanthophorus serraticornis''. Other species that were formerly included in the genus are now placed in other genera. Growing to nearly long, they are among the largest beetles of India. These beetles are reddish to brownish. The mandibles In anatomy, the mandible, lower jaw or jawbone is the largest, strongest and lowest bone in the human facial skeleton. It forms the lower jaw and holds the lower teeth in place. The mandible sits beneath the maxilla. It is the only movable bone ... vary in size with some males having much larger mandibles than the females. These bear two to three strong teeth from midway to the tip. The antennae are twelve segmented with the fifth to the eleventh having a spiny outgrowth at the tip. Aesa (beetle)
Aesa or Aisa ( grc, Αἶσα) was a town of ancient Macedonia. Aesa belonged to the Delian League since it appears on a tribute list to Athens in 434/3 BCE. The editors of the Barrington Atlas of the Greek and Roman World identify Aesa with Lisaea, a city mentioned by Herodotus Herodotus ( ; grc, , }; BC) was an ancient Greek historian and geographer from the Greek city of Halicarnassus, part of the Persian Empire (now Bodrum, Turkey) and a later citizen of Thurii in modern Calabria ( Italy). Acanthinodera
''Acanthinodera'' is a genus of longhorned beetles in the family Cerambycidae. It is monotypic, being represented by the single species ''Acanthinodera cumingii''.Bezark, Larry GA Photographic Catalog of the Cerambycidae of the World. Retrieved on 22 May 2012. It is the largest species of beetle in Chile. The beetle is endemic to central Chile and can be found from IV Coquimbo Region to IX La Araucanía Region. Description The species has a particularly marked sexual dimorphism, which originally led naturalists to classify the male and female as distinct species. The male measures 5–6 cm, is light brown and furry. The female is black and measures between 8–9 cm on average, although specimens exceeding 12 cm in length have also been found. The male is nocturnal and can fly, but the female is diurnal and does not fly. The insects produce a hissing sound when disturbed that they generate by rubbing their rear legs along the edge of the wing covers. Alth ...
