Positron! Records Albums
Positron Records is an independent record label based in Chicago, Illinois. The label was founded in 1998 by Chris Randall, frontman of the industrial band Sister Machine Gun. Positron describes itself as an "anti-label" because they release only a handful of albums and give as much support to each release as they can. The label also features a Creative Commons license for some of its albums, allowing individuals to upload those songs to peer-to-peer websites as well as sample parts of those songs for private or commercial usage. Chris Randall (musician)
Chris Randall (born 1968) is an American musician, Eurorack evangelist, and the current frontman of Sister Machine Gun. In 1998, he created a side-project called Micronaut, focusing on more instrumental music that was not necessarily appropriate for Sister Machine Gun. After disbanding Sister Machine Gun in 2007, he began his solo career and released the EP ''Cheap Sensation'' and the full-length album ''The Devil His Due''. Chris also collaborates with Wade Alin from Christ Analogue on the IDM project Scanalyzer. In 2015 he rebanded Sister Machine Gun to release The Future Unformed on WTII. The Atomica Project
The Atomica Project, formerly known as Atomica, is a trip hop band based in Chicago, Illinois. The group's members are producer and songwriter Wade Alin of Christ Analogue and vocalist Lauren Cheatham, with keyboardist Percy Trayanov and drummer Rey Guajardo joining them on tour. Christine Flutter Ingaldson later joined as vocalist. Alin, formerly based in New York City, moved to Chicago, where he met Cheatham. The Atomica Project's first record, ''Metropolitan'', was released on Positron Records in 2005. The album was inspired by Alin's time in New York. Matt Walker (drummer)
Matt Walker is an American session musician, known for drumming with Filter, The Smashing Pumpkins and Morrissey, as well as being the regular fill-in to Butch Vig from Garbage on three of their tours (2002, 2016, 2019). Biography Walker began his career in Chicago in the mid-1980s, when he began playing drums for the Chicago bands Scott Bennett & The Obvious, The Clinic, Brad Peterson and Peat Moss and Tribal Opera until joining the band Filter in 1994. Matt toured with Filter in support of the album, '' Short Bus'' until 1996. Filter toured with The Smashing Pumpkins in Europe and when Pumpkins drummer Jimmy Chamberlin was fired after a heroin overdose, Walker was hired to replace Chamberlin. He finished the ''Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness'' tour with the band (1996–1997) and all of their dates up until the beginning of the '' Adore'' tour. Sampling (music)
In sound and music, sampling is the reuse of a portion (or sample) of a sound recording in another recording. Samples may comprise elements such as rhythm, melody, speech, sounds or entire bars of music, and may be layered, equalized, sped up or slowed down, repitched, looped, or otherwise manipulated. They are usually integrated using hardware ( samplers) or software such as digital audio workstations. A process similar to sampling originated in the 1940s with '' musique concrète'', experimental music created by splicing and looping tape.
