Picrodendraceae
Picrodendraceae is a family of flowering plants, consisting of 80 species in 24 genera.Stephens, P.F. (2001 onwards). Angiosperm Phylogeny Website. Version 9, June 2008. http://www.mobot.org/MOBOT/Research/APweb/ These are subtropical to tropical and found in New Guinea, Australia, New Caledonia, Madagascar, continental Africa, and tropical America. Its closest relatives are Phyllanthaceae. This family used to be known as the subfamily Oldfieldioideae of the Euphorbiaceae. Taxonomy The family contains about 80 species organised into three tribes, ten subtribes and 24 genera. Petalostigma
''Petalostigma'' is a genus of plants under the family Picrodendraceae and the monogeneric subtribe Petalostigmatinae, first defined by von Mueller in 1857. It is native to New Guinea and Australia. They are evergreen, dioecious shrubs or trees. In local medicine, pregnancy is said to be avoided by eating the fruit of the quinine bush ('' Petalostigma pubescens''), which does not actually contains quinine. Another example is '' Petalostigma triloculare'' which features exploding fruit. Parodiodendron
''Parodiodendron'' is a monotypic plant genus under the family Picrodendraceae, described as a genus in 1969. The sole species is ''Parodiodendron marginivillosum'' . It is found in northern Argentina (Jujuy and Salta Provinces), Bolivia (Tarija and Santa Cruz departments). It is listed as vulnerable, threatened by habitat loss. The genus name of ''Parodiodendron'' is in honour of Lorenzo Raimundo Parodi (1895–1966), an Argentinian botanist and agricultural engineer, professor of botany in Buenos Aires and La Plata with a focus on South American grasses. It was first described and published in Kurtziana Vol.5 on page 331 in 1969.
