Maurice Peston, Baron Peston Of Mile End
Maurice Harry Peston, Baron Peston (19 March 1931 – 23 April 2016) was a British economist and Labour Party (UK), Labour life peer. His research interests included macroeconomic policy and the economics of education. Personal Peston was born in 1931 in London, the son of Abraham Peston, a "pleater" in the garment trade, and Yetta R. (née Malt) Peston. He was educated at Belle Vue Boys' School, Bradford, West Yorkshire, and Hackney Downs School. He graduated from the London School of Economics and undertook postgraduate study at Princeton University. He married Helen Conroy in London in 1958. The couple believed passionately in state education, and sent all of their three children to the local comprehensive, Highgate Wood School, Crouch End, north London. Robert James Kenneth Peston (born 25 April 1960) is an English journalist, presenter, and author. He is the political editor of ITV News and host of the weekly political discussion show '' Peston'' (previously '' Peston on Sunday''). From 2006 until 2014, he was the business editor of BBC News and its economics editor from 2014 to 2015. He became known to the wider public with his reporting on the late 2000s financial crisis, especially with his exclusive information on the Northern Rock crisis. He is the founder of the education charity Speakers for Schools. ''Peston on Sunday'' was the flagship political discussion programme on British television network ITV, which was broadcast live on Sunday mornings from 10 am and rebroadcast after the ''ITV Weekend News'' on Sunday evening. The programme was presented by Robert Peston, the Political Editor of ITV News, and featured discussions with politicians and public figures on the major news events of the week alongside analysis and social media reaction. ITV announced on 5 June 2018 that the show would resume in the autumn of 2018 and would be broadcast after the ''ITV News at Ten'' on Wednesday nights.
