Peru–Switzerland Relations
Peru–Switzerland relations refers to the bilateral relations between Peru and Switzerland. Both countries established consular relations in 1876 and made them official in 1884, and relations have been maintained since. A Swiss consulate opened in Lima in 1884, being transformed into a consulate general in 1931, before being elevated to the rank of legation in 1946 and embassy in 1957. During World War II, Switzerland represented Peruvian interests in Germany, Italy and France, at the same time representing those of the latter in Peru. Bilateral Relations
Bilateralism is the conduct of political, economic, or cultural relations between two sovereign states. It is in contrast to unilateralism or multilateralism, which is activity by a single state or jointly by multiple states, respectively. When states recognize one another as sovereign states and agree to diplomatic relations, they create a bilateral relationship. States with bilateral ties will exchange diplomatic agents such as ambassadors to facilitate dialogues and cooperations. Economic agreements, such as free trade agreements (FTA) or foreign direct investment (FDI), signed by two states, are a common example of bilateralism. Honorary Consul
A consul is an official representative of the government of one state in the territory of another, normally acting to assist and protect the citizens of the consul's own country, as well as to facilitate trade and friendship between the people of the two countries. Casa Marcionelli
The Casa Marcionelli was a historical residential and commercial building located near San Martín Plaza, in Lima. The 3-story building was destroyed in 2023 by a fire during a series of protests in its immediate surroundings. The building was named after its first owner, Severino Marcionelli. History The building's area was bought by Italian Swiss businessman and philanthropist Severino Marcionelli ( Bironico, 1869 – Lima, 1957), originally from Ticino, alongside his business partner, José Di Luka Hanza Pericevic, originally from Cannosa, Dalmatia. Plaza San Martín, Lima
The Plaza San Martín is one of the most representative public spaces of the city of Lima, Peru. It is located at the ninth block of Avenida Nicolás de Piérola, Colmena avenue, within the Historic Centre of Lima which was declared a World Heritage Site in 1988 by UNESCO. It is located near the Plaza Mayor of Lima and is connected to it by the Jiron de la Union. Its central monument gives homage to Peru's liberator, José de San Martín. Historic Centre Of Lima
Located principally in the city centre or Cercado de Lima and Rímac areas, the Historic Centre of Lima is among the most important tourist destinations in Peru. Foundation The city of Lima, the capital of Peru, was founded by Francisco Pizarro on 18 January 1535 and given the name City of the Kings. Nevertheless, with time its original name persisted, which may come from one of two sources: Either the Aymara language ''lima-limaq'' (meaning "yellow flower"), or the Spanish pronunciation of the Quechuan word ''rimaq'' (meaning "talker", and actually written and pronounced ''limaq'' in the nearby Quechua I languages). Trsteno ( lat, Cannosa, Dalmatian: ''Canait'') is a village in southern Croatia, administratively located in the City of Dubrovnik. It is located on the D8 road, between the Orašac and Brsečine. Trsteno Arboretum Trsteno is most famous for its arboretum, is the oldest arboretum in this part of the world. The arboretum was erected by the local noble family of Gozze in the late 15th century, who requested ship captains to bring back seeds and plants from their travels. The exact start date for the arboretum is unknown, but it was already in existence by 1492, when a 15 m span aqueduct to irrigate the arboretum was constructed; this aqueduct is still in use. Club De La Unión
The Club de la Unión is a non-profit Peruvian civil association which was founded on October 10, 1868. Its founders include such notable historical figures such as admiral Miguel Grau, colonel Alfonso Ugarte, and colonel Francisco Bolognesi, many of which would later go on to serve in the Peruvian military during the War of the Pacific. Infrastructure Currently, the Club de la Unión is headquartered in the heart of the Historic center of Lima on the Plaza Mayor. Its offices occupy the Palacio de la Unión which is located at the intersection of the Jirón de la Unión and the Jiron Huallaga.
