Paul O'Grady
Paul James O'Grady Order of the British Empire, MBE Deputy Lieutenant, DL (born 14 June 1955) is an English comedian, broadcaster, actor, writer and former drag queen. He achieved notability in the London gay scene during the 1980s with his drag queen persona Lily Savage, very popular in the 1990s. O'Grady subsequently dropped the character and in the 2000s became the presenter of various television and radio shows, most notably ''The Paul O'Grady Show''. Born to a working-class Irish migrant family in Tranmere, Merseyside, Tranmere, Cheshire, O'Grady moved to London in the late 1970s, initially working as a peripatetic care officer for Camden London Borough Council, Camden Council. He developed his drag act in 1978, basing the character of Lily Savage upon traits found amongst female relatives. The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry, rewarding contributions to the arts and sciences, work with charitable and welfare organisations, and public service outside the civil service. It was established on 4 June 1917 by King George V and comprises five classes across both civil and military divisions, the most senior two of which make the recipient either a knight if male or dame if female. There is also the related British Empire Medal, whose recipients are affiliated with, but not members of, the order. Olga TV
Olga TV is a British independent television production company set up by the entertainer and talk show host, Paul O'Grady in 2005. Named after O'Grady's pet dog, Olga the company is best known for producing shows such as ''The Paul O'Grady Show'' for Channel 4. The Paul O'Grady Show ended on Channel 4 on 18 December 2009, as O'Grady had signed a new deal with ITV. Between 2010 and 2011, Olga TV produced Friday night ITV chatshow ''Paul O'Grady Live'', however on 7 October 2011, it was announced that the show had been cancelled. Paul O'Grady's latest show ''For the Love of Dogs'' is not produced by Olga TV, but with Shiver instead. Birkenhead
Birkenhead (; cy, Penbedw) is a town in the Metropolitan Borough of Wirral, Merseyside, England; historically, it was part of Cheshire until 1974. The town is on the Wirral Peninsula, along the south bank of the River Mersey, opposite Liverpool. At the 2011 census, it had a population of 88,818. Roy Hudd
Roy Hudd, OBE (16 May 1936 – 15 March 2020) was an English comedian, actor, presenter, radio host, author and authority on the history of music hall entertainment. Early life Hudd was born in Croydon on 16 May 1936 to Evalina "Evie" (née Barham) and Harry Hudd. His father was a carpenter who left the family shortly after the Second World War, and his mother, who had a history of mental health problems, commited suicide by gas when Hudd was 9 years old. Hudd was primarily brought up by his grandmother, and attended Tavistock Secondary Modern School in Croydon and Croydon Secondary Technical School. After completing his national service in the Royal Air Force, he studied commercial art at the Regent Street Polytechnic. He then worked as a messenger for an advertising agency, a window dresser and a commercial artist working under Harry Beck. The British Music Hall Society is a registered charity in the United Kingdom. Its remits are to advance the education of the public in the traditions of the British Music Hall and the art of the present-day performer; and to preserve memorabilia in the form of records, films, electronic media, photographs, literature, costumes and personal properties appertaining to music halls and music hall performers. ''Blind Date'' is a British dating game show first produced by London Weekend Television. An unscreened pilot was made with comic Duncan Norvelle as presenter but it was eventually hosted by Cilla Black, who already hosted the LWT series '' Surprise Surprise''. ''Blind Date'' originally ran on Saturday nights from 30 November 1985 to 31 May 2003 on ITV. The show returned in 2017 on Channel 5. ''Paul O'Grady: For the Love of Dogs'' is a multi-award winning British reality documentary television series set at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home and presented by Paul O'Grady. It has won numerous awards throughout its time on air. The show is made by MultiStory Media and premiered on ITV on 3 September 2012. Format Throughout the series, Paul meets members of the Battersea staff to talk about the dogs in their care, including head vet Shaun Opperman and head of canine welfare training Ali Taylor. In each episode, Paul meets a few of the dogs who come to Battersea as strays or because their owners can't look after them anymore, and follows each dog's progress through the home. ''Paul O'Grady on the Wireless'' (billed as ''Paul O'Grady'' and referred to on-air as ''TeamPOG'' or ''TeamPOGradio'') is the incarnation of the Sunday teatime slot on BBC Radio 2 that aired from 5 April 2009 to 14 August 2022, hosted by Paul O'Grady.
