The Panhellenic Socialist Movement ( el, Πανελλήνιο Σοσιαλιστικό Κίνημα, Panellínio Sosialistikó Kínima, ), known mostly by its acronym PASOK, (; , ) is a social-democratic political party in Greece. Until 2012, it was one of the two major parties in the country, along with New Democracy, its main political rival. Following the collapse of the Greek military dictatorship of 1967–1974, PASOK was founded on 3 September 1974 as a socialist, democratic socialist and Left-wing nationalism, left-wing nationalist party. Formerly the largest left-wing party in Greece between 1977 and 2012, PASOK lost much of its popular support as a result of the Greek government-debt crisis, Greek debt crisis. When the crisis begun, PASOK was the ruling party and negotiated the First Economic Adjustment Programme for Greece, first Greek bailout package with the European troika which necessitated harsh austerity measures. Nikos Androulakis
Nikos Androulakis ( el, Νίκος Ανδρουλάκης; born 7 February 1979) is a Greek politician and president of the Movement for Change (KINAL) and the Panhellenic Socialist Movement (PASOK) since 2021. In 2014 and in 2019 he was elected as a Member of the European Parliament (MEP). Early life and career Born 1979 in Heraklion, Androulakis studied civil engineering at the Democritus University of Thrace, from where he also received a MSc in "New Materials and Environment". He has worked in the tourism industry and as a civil engineer, he also gave courses in the School of Pedagogical and Technological Education. Political career Career in national politics In 2001 Androulakis became a member of the Central Council of PASOK Youth and in 2008 he was appointed member of the National Council of PASOK. Democratic Coalition (Greece, 2015)
The Democratic Alignment ( el, Δημοκρατική Συμπαράταξη (ΔΗΣΥ), translit=Dimokratiki Symparataxi, DISI), also translated as Democratic Coalition, was a political alliance in Greece. History The alliance was launched on 30 August 2015 by the Panhellenic Socialist Movement (PASOK) and the Democratic Left (DIMAR). In the September 2015 legislative election, the alliance received 6.3% of the vote, providing the mandate for 17 seats in the Hellenic Parliament. In January 2017, the Movement of Democratic Socialists joined Democratic Alignment. Οn 13 January 2017, MPs Leonidas Grigorakos and Ilchan Achmet joined the Democratic Alignment. On 16–18 March 2018, DISI and other Greek centre-left parties merged into Movement for Change.
