Ostorhinchus Aureus
The ring-tailed cardinalfish (''Ostorhinchus aureus'') is a widespread fish species in the family Apogonidae found in the Red Sea and off East Africa to Papua New Guinea, north to Japan, and south to Australia. Taxonomy The French naturalist Philibert Commerson provided the first description of this fish from Réunion in the western Indian Ocean, but it was not published in a format allowing full citation. Therefore, the species name and description by Bernard Germain de Lacépède (who acknowledged Commerson) takes precedence, albeit with a nod to Commerson.Lacépède, B. G. E. (1802''Histoire naturelle des poissons. v. 4, p.273''/ref> With no original or subsequent illustrations or specimens denoted as types, Fricke nominated a neotype in 1999 but subsequently withdrew it.Fricke, R. (2000) ''Invalid neotypes'' Copeia 2000 (no. 2): 639-640 Etymology This species has on occasion been mistakenly considered a junior synonym of the similar species '' Ostorhinchus fleurieu'', but ...

Ostorhinchus Capricornis
''Ostorhinchus capricornis'', also known as the Capricorn cardinalfish, is a species of ray-finned fish, a cardinalfish from the family Apogonidae which occurs around reefs in the western Pacific Ocean. Description ''Ostorhinchus capricornis'' is dusky yellow in colour, this lightens to bronze or golden yellow on the ventral surface. It has a black spot around the caudal peduncle and it has two "neon" blue stripes which run through the eye, the lower stripe extending to the posterior edge of the operculum. It grows to a maximum standard length of . It is similar to the yellow cardinalfish ('' Ostorhinchus flavus'') but that species has white stripe through the eye rather than the neon blue stripes of ''O. capricornis''. Distribution ''Ostorhinchus capricornis'' is named after the Capricorn Group of islands in southern Great Barrier Reef, Queensland, where most of the specimens have been collected. It also occurs on reefs in the southern Coral Sea, at least as far south as Sydn ...
