The Offaly Senior Football Championship is an annual Gaelic football competition contested by top-tier Offaly GAA clubs. The Offaly County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association has organised it since 1896. Rhode are the title holders (2022), defeating Tullamore on a scoreline of 1-09 to 0-11 in the Final. Rhode GAA
Rhode GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located just outside the Village of Rhode in County Offaly, Ireland. With 30 Senior Football wins they are the most successful team in Offaly GAA football history. History The first recorded football match played by Rhode was on 17 March 1889 against Portarlington GAA. The outcome was a defeat for Rhode. The first appearance for Rhode in an Offaly football final was in 1891, however the match was unofficial and the facts about the match are unclear. Rhode's first official finals appearance was on 21 July 1900. It was also Rhode's first Championship win with the match ending Rhode 0−7, Daingean 0−2. Handball Fahy's Cross handball Club is located a mile north of Rhode, and is the Gaelic handball team of Rhode. Clara GAA is a GAA club based in Clara, County Offaly, Ireland. It participates in competitions organized by the Offaly GAA county board. The club fields both Gaelic football and Hurling teams. History The club was founded in 1884 and was the first club outside of Dublin to affiliate to the newly formed Gaelic Athletic Association. It is thus the oldest club in Offaly. 2019 Offaly Senior Football Championship
The 2019 Offaly Senior Football Championship was the 122nd edition of Offaly GAA's premier Gaelic football competition for senior graded clubs in County Offaly, Ireland. Eight teams compete, with the winner representing Offaly in the Leinster Senior Club Football Championship. The championship starts a league stage and progresses to a knockout stage. Rhode were the defending champions after they defeated Ferbane in the previous year's final, however Ferbane claimed revenge this year when defeating Rhode in the final to claim their first championship in 25 years their 12th title overall. This was Shamrocks' return to the senior grade after claiming the 2018 Offaly Senior B Football Championship title. The 2018 Offaly Senior Football Championship was the 121st edition of Offaly GAA's premier Gaelic football competition for senior graded clubs in County Offaly, Ireland. Eight teams compete, with the winner representing Offaly in the Leinster Senior Club Football Championship. The championship starts a league stage and progresses to a knockout stage. Rhode were the defending champions after they defeated Clara in the previous years final, and they successfully defended their title to claim a "3-in-a-row" when defeating Ferbane in the final. This was Durrow's return to the senior grade after claiming the 2017 Offaly Senior B Football Championship title, however they were relegated back to Senior B for 2019 when suffering relegation at the hands of Durrow. The 2016 Offaly Senior Football Championship was the 119th edition of Offaly GAA's premier Gaelic football competition for senior graded clubs in County Offaly, Ireland. Eight teams compete, with the winner representing Offaly in the Leinster Senior Club Football Championship. The championship starts with two groups of four teams and progresses to a knockout stage. Edenderry were the defending champions after they defeated Rhode in the previous years final, however they failed to qualify for the knock-out stages this season. This was Ballycumber's return to the senior grade after claiming the 2015 Offaly Senior B Football Championship title. They made the straight bounce back to the top flight after being relegated in 2014 to the Senior B championship due to the changing format of the championships, where the number of teams in the senior grade was reduced from 12 to 8. Walsh Island is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in the village of Walsh Island in County Offaly, Ireland. With 12 Senior Football wins and 2 Leinster Championship wins, they are one of the most successful clubs in the Offaly. History Before the club was formed in 1930, many players from Walsh Island played for nearby ''Geashill GAA''. It was decided that the club's colours would be the green and white hoops of Shamrock Rovers, the top football club in Ireland.
