Blanche Marie Louise Oelrichs (October 1, 1890 – November 5, 1950) was an American poet, playwright and theatre actress. Oelrichs first used the masculine pen name Michael Strange to publish her poetry in order to distance her High society (social class), society reputation from its sometimes erotic content, but it soon became the name under which she presented herself for the remainder of her life. Early life Born to Charles May Oelrichs and Blanche de Loosey, Blanche Oelrichs was the youngest of four children. Her Austrians, Austrian mother was the sister of Emilie de Loosey, wife of Theodore Havemeyer. Hermann Oelrichs (June 8, 1850 – September 1, 1906), was an American businessman, multimillionaire, and agent of Norddeutsche Lloyd shipping. Early life Oelrichs was born on June 8, 1850 in Baltimore, Maryland. He was the son of German-born Henry Ferdinand Oelrichs (1810–1875), a senior partner in the firm of Oelrichs & Lurman, and Julia Matilda (née May) Oelrichs (1819–1879), who was born in Washington, DC. His siblings included Charles May Oelrichs and Henry Oelrichs. Oelrichs was the grandson of Gesche Catharina (née Holler) Oelrichs and Johann Gerhard Oelrichs, a German merchant in Bremen. Marjorie de Loosey Oelrichs Duchin (June 23, 1908 – August 3, 1937) was an American socialite. Early life Marjorie was born on June 23, 1908 and was daughter of Marjorie Ramely Oelrichs (née Turnbull; 1883–1952) and Charles de Loosey Oelrichs (1882–1973). After her parents divorce, her father remarried to Madeleine Lucienne Meyer, a daughter of Millius Pierre Meyer, in 1926. Edwin Frank Duchin (April 1, 1909 – February 9, 1951), commonly known as Eddy Duchin or alternatively Eddie Duchin, was an American jazz pianist and bandleader during the 1930s and 1940s. Early career Duchin was born on April 1, 1909 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States, to Bessarabian Jewish immigrants Tillie (née Baron; 1885 – March 21, 1962) and Frank Duchin (June 2, 1885 – May 15, 1957). After graduating from Beverly High School, he attended the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and was originally a pharmacist before turning full-time to music and beginning his new career with Leo Reisman's orchestra at the Central Park Casino in New York, an elegant nightclub where he became popular in his own right, causing strife between him and Reisman.
