Oblasts Of Ukraine
An oblast (, ; ), sometimes translated as region or province, is the main type of first-level administrative divisions of Ukraine, administrative division of Ukraine. The country's territory is divided into 24 oblasts, as well as one Autonomous republic of Ukraine, autonomous republic and two City with special status, cities with special status. As Ukraine is a unitary state, oblasts do not have much legal scope of competence other than that which is established in the Constitution of Ukraine, Ukrainian Constitution and devolved by law. Articles 140–146 of s:Constitution of Ukraine#Chapter IX: Territorial Structure of Ukraine, Chapter XI of the constitution deal directly with local authorities and their competence. Unitary State
A unitary state is a (Sovereign state, sovereign) State (polity), state governed as a single entity in which the central government is the supreme authority. The central government may create or abolish administrative divisions (sub-national or sub-state units). Such units exercise only the powers that the central government chooses to delegate. Okruhas Of The Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic
An okruha () is a historical administrative division of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic that existed between 1923 and 1930. The system was intended as a transitional system between the Russian Empire, Russian Imperial division of governorates and the modern equivalent of oblasts. As a literal translation, the word ''okruha'' means vicinity or neighborhood (sharing a root with the words "circle" and "around", a close equivalent is the German term ). This level of subdivision is roughly equivalent to that of a county, parish, or borough. Luhansk Oblast
Luhansk Oblast (; ), also referred to as Luhanshchyna (), is the easternmost Administrative divisions of Ukraine, oblast (province) of Ukraine. Its administrative center is the city of Luhansk. The oblast was established in 1938 and bore the name ''Voroshilovgrad Oblast'' until 1958 and again from 1970 to 1991.
