Oakland Roots SC
Oakland Roots Sports Club is an American professional soccer team based in Oakland, California. The club was formed in 2018 by a group of Oakland natives, and began play in the National Independent Soccer Association in the fall of 2019. In 2021, the club joined the second division USL Championship. History The club was formed in July 2018, and would be known as Oakland Roots Sports Club. The club originally was slated to play in the NPSL Founders Cup, but the club ultimately withdrew and instead joined the National Independent Soccer Association, a Division III sanctioned United States Soccer Federation professional league. Oakland Roots began by signing three Oakland-raised players in the spring of 2019: Devante Dubose, Julio Cervantes and Yohannes Harish. Laney College Football Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium located on the Laney College campus in Oakland, California on the former site of Frank Youell Field. It is owned and operated by Laney College and is the home field of the Laney Eagles track & field and football teams, both of which are part of the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA). Paul Bravo
Paul Bravo (born June 19, 1968) is an American former soccer player who was most recently head coach of NISA side Oakland Roots SC. He played six seasons in Major League Soccer, two in the American Professional Soccer League and two in the USISL. He also earned four caps, scoring one goal, with the United States men's national soccer team. After his retirement from playing, Bravo served for several years as an assistant coach in both Major League Soccer and the NCAA and was most recently Technical Director for the Colorado Rapids. Youth and college Bravo was a student-athlete at Santa Teresa High School in San Jose, California. He then played two years of college soccer at Foothill Community College and winning State Championships and while at Santa Clara University and helped his team to the NCAA co-championship in 1989. Matthew Ryan Fondy (born July 28, 1989) is an American soccer player who currently plays for Inter San Francisco in the San Francisco Soccer Football League. Founded in 2009, the team began play in the National Independent Soccer Association (NISA) in Spring 2020. Jordan Ferrell
Jordan Ferrell (born 1987) is an American soccer coach and technical director with USL Championship club Oakland Roots SC. Playing career Ferrell played four years of college soccer at Cal State East Bay Pioneers from 2005 to 2008. He was considered a leader for the team and during his final two years with the team he was the captain. After graduating from college, Ferrell went on to play semi-professionally in Germany. While there he played for SG Quelle Fürth in the Landesliga Bayern-Mitte and SpVgg Ansbach in the Bayernliga. While his time in Germany was relatively short, it inspired him to get into coaching.
