Norway
Norway, officially the Kingdom of Norway, is a Nordic country in Northern Europe, the mainland territory of which comprises the western and northernmost portion of the Scandinavian Peninsula. Marie Colban
Marie Colban (18 December 1814 – 27 March 1884) was a Norwegian novelist, short story writer and translator. Biography She was born at Christiania (now Oslo), Norway. She was the daughter of Peter Nicolai Schmidt (1776–1846) and Petronelle Sandberg (1787–1846). Her father was an attorney. She was married to teacher Nathanael Angell Colban (1793–1850) from 1836. After his death in 1850 she resided in Paris from 1856 and also wrote for Norwegian newspapers. In the summer months she usually visited Norway, but in the autumn she returned to Paris. She translated Eugène Sue's novel ''Mathilde'' and other literary works from French into Norwegian language. Her first literary work was ''Lærerinden'' from 1869. She later wrote ''Tre Noveller'', 1873, and ''Jeg lever'', 1877. From 1882 to 1884 she published a series of memoir articles from her Paris years in the magazine ''Nyt Tidsskrift''. Dorothe Engelbretsdatter
Dorothe Engelbretsdatter (16 January 163419 February 1716) was a Norwegian author. She principally wrote hymns and poems which were strongly religious. She has been characterized as Norway's first recognized female author as well as Norway's first feminist before feminism became a recognized concept. Background Dorothe Engelbretsdatter was born in Bergen, Norway. She was the daughter of Rector and Vicar, Engelbret Jørgenssøn (1592–1659) and Anna Wrangel. Her father was originally head of Bergen Cathedral School, and later dean of Bergen Cathedral. In her youth, Dorothe spent some time in Copenhagen. In 1652, she married Ambrosius Hardenbeck (1621–1683), a theological writer famous for his flowery funeral sermons, who succeeded her father at the Cathedral in 1659. Magli Elster
Magli Elster (née Raknes; 21 November 1912 – 11 May 1993) was a Norwegian psychoanalyst, literary critic, poet and translator. Personal life Elster was born in the neighborhood of Vålerenga in Kristiania (now Oslo), Norway. She was the daughter of psychologist Ola Raknes (1887–1975) and poet-playwright Aslaug Vaa (1889–1965). She grew up partly in Vålerenga, Kviteseid and Paris. She was married to writer and Director-General of the NRK Torolf Elster (1911–2006) and was the mother of philosopher Jon Elster. Career Elster received psychoanalytic training in Prague from 1934 to 1937, and practiced as psychoanalyst from 1937 to 1943. From 1947 to 1985 she was assigned as literary critic for the newspaper ''Arbeiderbladet''. Anne Karin Elstad
Anne Karin Elstad (19 January 1938 – 4 April 2012) was a Norwegian author known for her book series featuring the character ''Julie''. Biography Anne Karin Hestnes was born 19 January 1938, in Halsa to farm owner Johan Hestnes (1897–1980) and Jenny Roaldset (1900–1950), and grew up in Valsøyfjord in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. She was educated as a teacher from 1959 to 1963, and worked in the profession until 1978, before she dedicated her full-time to writing. She debuted as an author in 1976 with the novel ''Folket på Innhaug'', which is the first of four novels in a popular series about the people who lived at Innhaug. Rawdna Carita Eira
Rawdna Carita Eira (born 6 October 1970 in Elverum) is a Norwegian and Sámi playwright and author. She grew up in Brønnøysund in Nordland county in Norway and trained to be a teacher. She has worked as a reindeer herder, stage manager and playwright associated with Beaivváš Sámi Theatre. She has written lyrics for her own songs and tunes by, among others, Mari Boine. Eira published a bilingual book in 2011, ''ruohta muzetbeallji ruohta/løp svartøre løp'', which was nominated for the Nordic Council Literature Prize in 2012. Ellen Einan
Ellen Einan (5 June 1931 – 25 March 2013) was a Norwegian poet and illustrator. Biography Ellen Einan was born at Svolvaer in Nordland, Norway, on 5 June 1931. Einan was known throughout Norway for her compact writing style, mystical vocabulary, vivid imagery, and overall unusual but fascinating poems. She made her literary debut in 1982 with the poetry collection ''Den gode engsøster''. Among her more notable works included ''Søster natt'' (1985), ''Døgnfarvene er mørke'' (1991), ''De syv nattstegene'' (1992), ''Jade for min engel'' (1994) ''Innenfor og utenfor er ett'' (1999) and ''Dagen får min uro'' (2004). Marit Eikemo
Marit Eikemo (born 1971) is a Norwegian essayist, novelist, journalist and magazine editor. Eikemo was born in Odda. She edited the book ''Her, no: Møte med unge menneske'' in 1999, and contributed to the essay collection ''Synd.no'' from 2001. Her first novel was ''Mellom oss sagt'' from 2006. In 2008 she published the essay collection ''Samtidsruinar'', and in 2009 the novel ''Arbeid pågår''. She was awarded the Nynorsk Literature Prize for the novel ''Samtale ventar'' in 2011. Astrid Sverresdotter Dypvik
Astrid Sverresdotter Dypvik (born October 19, 1977) is a Norwegian journalist and historian, and was the head of ''Norsk Målungdom'', the youth branch of the Language Organisation of Norway, from 2000 to 2002. Dypvik was born in Lensvik in the municipality of Agdenes. She received a master's degree in history from the University of Oslo with a thesis on German postwar history. As a journalist, she has written for the newspapers ''Morgenbladet'' and ''Klassekampen'', among others, and served as op-ed and debate editor for ''Klassekampen''. She is employed at the newspaper ''Nationen''. In addition, she has served as an editorial board member for the historical journal '' Fortid''. Conradine Birgitte Dunker (née Hansteen) (25 August 1780 – 11 September 1866) was a Norwegian socialite and writer. Biography Conradine Birgitte Hansteen was born in Christiania, 25 August 1780.
