Nippes ( French) or Nip (Haitian Creole) is one of the ten departments (the highest-level political subdivisions) of Haiti located in southern Haiti. It is the most recently created department, having been split from Grand'Anse in 2003. The capital of the department is Miragoâne. Tiburon Peninsula
The Tiburon Peninsula (french: Péninsule de Tiburon), or The Xaragua Peninsula, simply "the Tiburon" (''le Tiburon''), is a region of Haiti encompassing most of Haiti's southern coast. It starts roughly at the southernmost point of the Haiti-Dominican Republic border and extends westward near Cuba, forming a large headland. The commune () is the third-level divisions of Haiti. The 10 departments have 42 arrondissements, which are divided into 144 communes and then into 571 communal sections. Communes are roughly equivalent to civil townships and incorporated municipalities. Grand'Anse (department)
Grand'Anse (, ), Grandans or Grantans (; both meaning "Big Cove") is one of the ten departments of Haiti. Its capital is Jérémie. History Taino Period Grand'Anse was part of the Xaragua kasika with settlements like Mamey, the modern-day town of Abricot. Abricot is still known today as "the Indian's Paradise." French Period It is said that the capital city of Jérémie is named after a French fisherman who established himself in the area because of its isloation from the rest of the country. Due to its rather mountainous geography, Grand'Anse could not have many plantations. Therefore, there were white and mixed-race communities with some of the best schools in the colony. Baradères
Baraderes ( ht, Baradè) is a commune in the Nippes department in the southwest part of Haiti. The town has a picturesque market square with a large church. There are few shops and no hotels. The area economy is based on subsistence agriculture, although a small association of subsistence farmers, Kafe Devlopman Barade, began exporting coffee to the U.S. in 2008. The town is vulnerable to flooding and is accessible via a rocky dirt road. T The road is periodically improved, but remains passable only by lorries or high-clearance, four-wheel-drive vehicles. Baradères is also accessible by boat from Petite Trou de Nippes, but sedimentation has made the Bay of Baradères very shallow in places and difficult to navigate—even by canoe. Anse-à-Veau
Anse-à-Veau ( ht, Ansavo) is a commune in the Anse-à-Veau Arrondissement, in the Nippes department of Haiti. The postal code is HT 7510.
