Newton County is a county located in the southwest portion of the U.S. state of Missouri. As of the 2010 census, the population was 58,114. Its county seat is Neosho. The county was organized in 1838 and is named in honor of John Newton, a hero who fought in the Revolutionary War. Newton County is part of the Joplin, MO Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is a tributary of Shoal Creek, and its water flows from there into the Spring River, then the Neosho River, the Arkansas River, and ultimately the Mississippi River. Capps Creek is best known for Jolly Mill Park, located at the old township site of Jollification, Missouri. The creek is also known for trout fishing, as it is a White Ribbon Trout Area managed by the Missouri Department of Conservation. White Ribbon Trout Areas are stocked periodically with rainbow and, occasionally, brown trout. The fishing regulations are generally relaxed and allow anglers to use any live bait and keep up to four trout per day. Interstate 44 (Missouri)
Interstate 44 (I-44) in the US state of Missouri runs northeast from the Oklahoma state line near Joplin to I-70 in Downtown St. Louis. It runs for about in the state, and is the longest Interstate Highway in the state. Route description I-44 enters Missouri in Newton County at the eastern terminus of the Will Rogers Turnpike, south of the Kansas state line. The first interchange in Missouri is the eastern terminus of both U.S. Route 166 (US 166) and US 400. Warren Branch is a stream in Newton County, Missouri and Ottawa County, Oklahoma. It is a tributary of the Spring River. The stream headwaters arise at just east of Missouri Route 43 approximately seven miles north-northeast of Seneca. The stream flows generally west for approximately three miles and enters Ottawa County, Oklahoma. Turkey Creek is a stream in Jasper and Newton counties of southwest Missouri and Cherokee county of southeastern Kansas in the United States. It is a tributary of the Spring River. The stream headwaters arise in Newton County at in Newton County at an elevation of approximately 1170 feet. It begins in Barry County, Missouri southwest of Exeter and flows west through Newton county in Missouri before emptying into the Spring River near Riverton in Cherokee County, Kansas. Grand Falls South of Joplin the stream flows over Grand Falls, a large waterfall that spans the entire creek from bank to bank. In the 1890s a hydroelectric plant was built at the site but has since been abandoned. A theatre, boat houses, a German Village and a dance pavilion were built by the falls in the early 20th century and the Missouri Pacific Railroad shuttled visitors to the site. Jones Creek is a stream in Jasper and Newton counties in the U.S. state of Missouri. It is a tributary of Center Creek. The stream headwaters arise in Newton County at at an elevation of about 1260 feet. The stream flows to the northwest passing the communities of Pepsin and Parshley. It passes under I-44 and gains the tributary of Jenkins Creek. Indian Creek (Elk River Tributary)
Indian Creek is a stream in Newton and McDonald counties of southwest Missouri. It is a tributary of the Elk River. The headwaters are in Newton County at and the confluence with Elk River is at . The stream starts at the confluence of North and South Indian creeks just east of Boulder City and flows southwest into McDonald County. It flows past the communities of McNatt and Erie and under U. S. Route 71 and Missouri Route 76 just southeast of Anderson. The stream turns south and flows parallel to Missouri Route 59 past Lanagan to its confluence with the Elk River about midway between Pineville and Noel.
