Newton is a town that is located within the Central Area of the Central Region of Singapore. The planning area is bounded by the following planning areas - Orchard and Museum to the south, Tanglin to the west, Novena to the north, Kallang to the northeast and Rochor to the east. Newton's namesake Newton Road, however, is located within Novena Planning Area, and starts at Newton Circus in the south and ends at the junction with Thomson Road in the north. Occupying an area north of the renowned Orchard Road shopping belt, the territory of Newton Planning Area includes the grounds of The Istana, the official residence and office of the President of Singapore. Planning Areas Of Singapore
Planning areas, also known as DGP areas or DGP zones, are the main urban planning and census divisions of Singapore delineated by the Urban Redevelopment Authority. There are a total of 55 of these areas, organised into Regions of Singapore, five regions. A Development Guide Plan is then drawn up for each planning area, providing for detailed planning guidelines for every individual plot of land throughout the country. The planning areas were first introduced in the early 1990s after the release of the 1991 Concept Plan. Since the implementation of these boundaries, other government ministries and departments have also increasingly adopted these boundaries for their administrative purposes. Melvin Yong
Melvin Yong Yik Chye ( zh, s=杨益财, p=Yáng Yìcái; born 1972) is a Singaporean politician, union leader and former police officer. A member of the governing People's Action Party (PAP), he has been the Member of Parliament (MP) representing Radin Mas SMC since 2020 and previously the Moulmein–Cairnhill division of Tanjong Pagar GRC between 2015 and 2020. Howard Newton (engineer)
Alfred Howard Vincent Newton (13 January 1852 – 27 July 1897) was the Assistant Engineer to the Singapore Municipality from 1877 to 1896, and later Acting Deputy Executive Engineer for Waterworks of Bombay. Early life and education Newton was born on 13 January 1852 in London as the fourth son of civil engineer William Edward Newton. He was educated at King's College London, where he won the Daniell Chemical Scholarship. After attending the school, he was articled by his father. Career He was employed by Henry Young Darracott Scott to carry out experiments in connection with sewage works at Leeds, Bolton and Nottingham. Novena, Singapore
Novena is a planning area located within the Central Region of Singapore. Novena is bounded by Toa Payoh to the north, Bukit Timah to the west, Tanglin to the south and Kallang to the east. Tanglin is a planning area located within the Central Region of Singapore. Tanglin is located west of Newton, Orchard, River Valley and Singapore River, south of Novena, east of Bukit Timah, northeast of Queenstown and north of Bukit Merah.
