Nedre Eiker was a Municipalities of Norway, municipality in Buskerud Counties of Norway, county, Norway. It is part of the Districts of Norway, traditional region of Eiker. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Mjøndalen. The old municipality of Eiker was divided into ''Nedre Eiker'' (lower Eiker) and ''Øvre Eiker'' (upper) on 1 July 1885. General information Name The Old Norse form of the name was ''Eikjar''. The name is the plural form of ''eiki'' which means "oak wood". The meaning of ''Nedre Eiker'' is "(the) lower (part of) Eiker". (The municipality of Eiker was divided in 1885.) Coat-of-arms The Coat of arms, coat-of-arms was granted on 26 June 1970. Eiker
Eiker is a traditional district in the county of Buskerud, Norway. History Eiker consists of the municipalities of Nedre Eiker and Øvre Eiker. The area is located in the southern part of Buskerud county. Eiker is an agricultural area with a long history. The area was first inhabited around 8000 BC. During the early Viking Age, Eiker was the western extension of the kingdom of Vingulmark. Somewhat later, it became part of the kingdom of Vestfold. The parish of ''Eker'' was established as a municipality on January 1, 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt). It was divided into Nedre Eiker and Øvre Eiker on July 1, 1885. Tingvoll is a municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. It is part of the Nordmøre region. The administrative centre is the village of Tingvollvågen. Other villages include Meisingset, Kvisvik, and Torjulvågen. The municipality covers a peninsula on the mainland as well as a few surrounding islands. Herman Wildenvey
Herman Wildenvey (20 July 1885 – 27 September 1959), born Herman Theodor Portaas, was one of the most prominent Norwegian poets of the twentieth century. During his lifetime he published 44 books of his own poetry, in addition to translations of William Shakespeare, Ernest Hemingway, and Heinrich Heine. He was married to the novelist Gisken Wildenvey. Biography Wildenvey was born at Mjøndalen in Nedre Eiker, near the city of Drammen in Buskerud, Norway. He was the son of Lauritz Portaas and Hanna Kristine Grosvold. He was born outside of marriage. Lars Korvald
(29 April 1916 – 4 July 2006) was a Norway, Norwegian educator and school headmaster. He became associated with the Kristelig Folkeparti, Christian Democratic Party and was elected to the Norwegian Parliament. He served as the 27th prime minister of Norway from 1972 to 1973, leading the cabinet that took over when Trygve Bratteli resigned in the wake of the first referendum over Norway's membership in the Norway and the European Union, European Economic Community. Drammensfjord
Drammensfjord ( en, Drammen Fjord) is a fjord in Norway that connects to Ytre Oslofjord on the west side. It stretches to the north and northeast. The Drammenselva river discharges into the head of the fjord. The municipality and city of Drammen which is named after the fjord is also found there. The majority of the fjord is within the county of Buskerud, but in the west and southwest it lies in Vestfold county. The land on the east side of the fjord is called ''Hurumhalvøya'' or the Hurum peninsula; it separates the Drammensfjord from the Oslofjord. The fjord narrows to a strait at Svelvik in Vestfold on the west side and Verket in Hurum on the east side. The strait is crossed by an automobile ferry. Tyrifjorden
Tyrifjorden (Lake Tyri) is a lake in Norway. It lies northwest of Oslo and is the nation's fifth largest lake with an area of 139 km2. It has a volume of 13 km3, is 295 meters deep at its deepest, and lies 63 meters above sea level. The lake's primary source is the Begna river, which discharges into Tyrifjorden at Hønefoss where the river forms the waterfall of Hønefossen. Solbergelva
Solbergelva is a village in Drammen municipality, part of the Viken county , Norway. The village lies north of Drammenselva, approx. 5 miles west of Bragernes square, between Åssiden in the east and Krokstadelva in the west with Solbergfjellet north. It is part of Drammen municipality and has about 6.000 inhabitants in 2017.
