This List of Louisiana state historic sites contains the 17 state historic sites governed by the Office of State Parks, a division of Louisiana Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism in the U.S. state of Louisiana, as of 2011. State historic sites were formerly known as state commemorative areas until July 1, 1999 with the passing of House Bill No. 462, which renamed them to state historic sites. 2010 budget cuts Due to state budget cuts in 2010, Los Adaes and Winter Quarters State Historic Site were placed on 'caretaker status'. Later in the year on July 26, five more historic sites were put on caretaker status. These sites included Centenary SHS, Fort Jesup, Fort Pike, Marksville, and Plaquemine Lock. The Tunica-Biloxi Indian Tribe, ( tun, Yoroniku-Halayihku) formerly known as the Tunica-Biloxi Indian Tribe of Louisiana, is a federally recognized tribe of primarily Tunica and Biloxi people, located in east central Louisiana. Descendants of Ofo (Siouan-speakers), Avoyel (a Natchez people), and Choctaw (Muskogean) are also enrolled in the tribe. In the 21st century, the people speak mostly English and French. Louisiana Highway 10 (LA 10) is a state highway located in southern Louisiana. It runs in an east–west direction from U.S. Highway 171 (US 171) south of Leesville to the Mississippi state line east of Bogalusa. The route connects a string of small towns and cities across the Central Louisiana, Acadiana, and Florida Parishes regions of the state. It runs parallel and to the north of the busier US 190 corridor. Louisiana Highway 66
Louisiana Highway 66 (LA 66) is a state highway located in southeastern Louisiana. It runs in a general east–west direction from the main entrance of the Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola to a junction with U.S. Highway 61 (US 61) north of St. Francisville. LA 66 winds through the scenic Tunica Hills of West Feliciana Parish and connects the prison facility with US 61, the main highway through the area. It is also steeped in history as the route is derived from an ancient Native American portage known as the Tunica Trace. The surrounding area contains burial mounds and other artifacts recalling this heritage. More recent historical sites include the antebellum Trudeau plantation located on the former site of a Tunica Indian village.
