Namsos (town)
Namsos is a town and the administrative center of Namsos municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is located on the north side of the mouth of the river Namsen, where it flows into Namsenfjorden. The village of Spillum lies across the river on the south side. The Norwegian County Road 17 runs through the town and just east of the town is Namsos Airport, Høknesøra. The town was the terminus of the Namsos Line from 1933 until its closure in 2002. The town is the site of the Namsos Hospital which serves the whole region. Vemundvik (municipality)
Vemundvik is a List of former municipalities of Norway, former municipality in the old Nord-Trøndelag county, Norway. The municipality existed from 1838 until its dissolution in 1964 (although it was originally much larger in 1838). By 1964, the municipality roughly corresponded to the mainland areas north of the river Namsen in what is now the municipality of Namsos in Trøndelag county. From 1838 until about 1942, the administrative centre was the village of Vemundvik where Vemundvik Church is located. Namsen
or is one of the longest rivers in Trøndelag county, in the central part of Norway. The long river flows through the municipalities of Røyrvik, Namsskogan, Grong, Overhalla, and Namsos before emptying into the Namsenfjorden. The river is the namesake for the whole Namdalen region. The river traditionally has been used for floating timber down from the forests to the town of Namsos, where the sawmills were located. Today, parts of the Namsen are regulated by several dams. Location The river begins in springs in Børgefjell National Park, just over the border in Nordland county. This water feeds the large lake ''Store Namsvatnet''. Sævik
Sævik or Sævig is a small village in the municipality of Namsos in Trøndelag county, Norway. The village was the site of the old Sævik Church until the mid-1800s. The village is located about half-way between the villages of Klinga and Spillum, along the Norwegian County Road 17. The town of Namsos lies about to the north, on the other side of the river Namsen. History Sævik had a church and was for many years the seat of a sub-parish (''sokn''). In the 16th century, Sævig was recorded as a part of Fosnes prestegjeld (parish). From 1820, it was part of the prestegjeld of Overhalla (not the same as Overhalla municipality). Klinga, Norway
Klinga or Klingen is a village in Namsos municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. The village is located about halfway between the villages of Bangsund and Spillum along the Norwegian County Road 17. The village of Sævik lies just north of Klinga and the town of Namsos lies about to the north. The dominant industries have been industry, agriculture, and forestry. The development of the main roads through the village was slow. In 1922, the important Namsen river bridge was completed so that traffic between the town of Namsos and the village of Klinga could occur regardless of the uncertain ferry connections. In 1928, the state took over road maintenance on main roads and eventually developed a road link to the south and east of Klinga. Bangsund
Bangsund is a village in the municipality of Namsos in Trøndelag county, Norway. It lies along the Løgnin arm of the Namsenfjorden, about south of the town of Namsos. The villages of Klinga and Sævik lie to the northeast along the Norwegian County Road 17. The village has a population (2018) of 925 and a population density of . History Norsemen referred to it as "Icebound", even though there isn't much ice. Bangsund was originally an extremely old settlement. In 1886, a worker found a tombstone that dated back to about 500-600 AD. The original farm was divided into two when its owner, Mickel Bangsund, gave one half to each of his two sons. After the sons had kids and died off, the little farm started growing into a small town. In 1801, the population was 30 people. The village of Bangsund was the administrative centre of the old municipality of Klinga which existed from 1891 until the dissolution of the municipality in 1964.
