Museu Do Ipiranga
The Museu Paulista of the University of São Paulo, commonly known as Museu do Ipiranga, is a Brazilian history museum located near the place where Emperor Pedro I proclaimed Brazil's independence on the banks of Ipiranga brook in the Southeast region of the city of São Paulo, then the "Caminho do Mar," or road to the seashore. It contains a huge collection of furniture, documents and historically relevant artwork, especially relating to the Brazilian Empire era. The most famous artwork in the collection is the 1888 painting '' Independência ou Morte'' (Independence or Death) by Pedro Américo. A few months after the Brazilian Declaration of Independence, people started to suggest a monument on the site where the declaration took place, although they were not sure about what sort of memorial construction to build. Werner Haberkorn
Werner Haberkorn (March 12, 1907 - July 1997) was a German-Brazilian engineer, photographer, and businessman. Haberkorn arrived in Brazil as an immigrant in the 1930s, accompanied by his wife Luise. Together with his brother, Geraldo Haberkorn, he founded one of the most important postcard companies in the country, Fotolabor. It produced thousands of postcards throughout the 1940s and 1950s, many of which were widely circulated. Haberkorn body of work allows the visualization of the urban transformation of the city of São Paulo in the mid-20th century. Werner Haberkorn died in 1997 at the age of 90. He left a legacy of aerial photographs, panoramic views, advertising stills, postcards, albums and photographic montages. Militão Augusto de Azevedo (Rio de Janeiro, 1837 — São Paulo, 1905) was a Brazilian photographer and actor active in the second half of the 19th century. Militão founded the Photographia Americana studio in 1875, where his clients included Castro Alves, Joaquim Nabuco, Dom Pedro II, and Empress Teresa Cristina. His rates were among the lowest in the city. The location of the studio in front of the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary, frequented mainly by the Afro-Brazilian residents, led to his photography of prominent Black citizens of Brazil. He depicted Afro-Brazilians not as slaves, but as ordinary citizens. His other works were of singers and theater artists. A collection of more than 12,000 photos produced by Militão de Azevedo was acquired by the Roberto Marinho Foundation in 1996 and donated to the Museu do Ipiranga of the University of São Paulo. Afonso d'Escragnolle Taunay (1876 in Florianópolis, Santa Catarina, Brazil – 1958 in São Paulo, São Paulo, Brazil) was a Brazilian writer, politician and noble. Biography Afonso was born in the ''Palácio Rosado'', the residence of Santa Catarina's governor.
