Marghab District (Persian ولسوالی مرغاب), is a district located in Ghor Province, Afghanistan, created on 26 November 2019. Shorabak area serves as the district center. The Marghab River (Persian/Pashto: مرغاب, ''Morqâb''), anciently the Margiana (Ancient Greek: Μαργιανή, ''Margianḗ''), is an long river in Central Asia. It rises in the Paropamisus Mountains (''Selseleh-ye Safīd Kūh'') in Ghor Province, flows through the Marghab District in central Afghanistan, then runs northwest towards the Bala Murghab. Bala murghab (Pashto/ fa, script=latn, Bala Murġāb) is a district situated in the northeast of Badghis Province, Afghanistan. The district capital is Bala Murghab city which is located along the Murghab River. Bala Murghab is surrounded by some other important districts such as Ab Kamari, Muqur, Jawand, and Qadis. Murgap District is a district of Mary Province in Turkmenistan. The administrative center of the district is the town of Murgap. Founded as Stalin District in February 1935, this district joined Mary four years later, in November 1939.
