Ulldecona
Ulldecona is a town in the South of Catalonia, in Montsià ( Terres de l'Ebre), near the Senia River. Ulldecona is part of the Taula del Sénia free association of municipalities. It has got town privileges since 1273. The nearest towns are: Alcanar, Sant Carles de la Ràpita, Freginals, Godall, La Galera, Mas de Barberans and La Sénia in the Montsià region; and Vinaròs, Traiguera, Sant Jordi and Sant Rafel del Riu in Baix Maestrat. Important tourist areas are also nearby, such as Salou and Peñíscola. Alcanar
Alcanar () is a Spanish municipality of the Catalan comarca of Montsià, in the Tarragona province. It is a coastal town on the Mediterranean Sea. The Serra del Montsià range and its foothills rise above the town and its surroundings. According to data from 2006 its population is 9,620 inhabitants, although this increased the next year, to 9,969. It is the southernmost town in Catalonia, located just north of the border with the municipality of Vinaròs which is in the province of Castellón and part of the region of Valencia. Sant Jaume D'Enveja
Sant Jaume d'Enveja is a municipality in the ''comarca'' of the Montsià in Catalonia, Spain. It is situated in the southern half of the Ebro Delta, on the right bank of the river. The municipality was created in 1978: previously the territory formed part of the municipality of Tortosa. It is linked to Amposta by a local road, and to Deltebre on the opposite bank by a service of barges. The town was established relatively recently in the 1860s. This is due in part to the formation of the delta over the last few centuries from the river's sedimentary deposits. The town's economy is centred on agriculture, principally rice cultivation, along with a strong tourist industry. The tourism sector has seen an expansion in recent years based on the attractive countryside offered by the River Ebre Delta national park and its biodiversity. Godall
Godall is a municipality in the Montsià comarca, Tarragona Province, Catalonia, Spain. Godall gives its name to the Serra de Godall, a moderately high and smooth calcareous mountain range that rises above the town. Local legend says that the village originated when people built a new settlement after abandoning the destroyed village of Merades, located within Godall's municipal term. The main economic activity is agriculture, particularly the growing of olive, carob, and almond trees. Godall has lost more than half its inhabitants since the first half of the 20th century when population reached a high of 1,700. La Sénia
La Sénia is a municipality in the ''comarca'' of Montsià in Catalonia, Spain. This town is located in a plain by the Sénia River at the western end of the Montsià county. The limestone massif of the Ports de Tortosa-Beseit rises a few miles west of the town. There are important celebrations every year in September in honor of Our Lady of Pallerols. History La Sénia was an important resting point for wayfarers and transhumant cattle herders in the past with roadside inns where travelers could rest and recover from the day's journey. In 1937 a military airfield was built by the Spanish Republican Air Force. Its location was chosen due to its strategic position, equidistant of the then republican cities of Barcelona and Valencia (for defensive purposes) and the then nationalist Zaragoza and Mallorca island (for attack purposes). Santa Bàrbara is a municipality in the ''comarca'' of Montsià in Catalonia, Spain. Santa Bàrbara is part of the Taula del Sénia free association of municipalities. Geography This town is located in a plain at the northern end of the Serra de Godall, at the crossing of the roads between Tortosa and Ulldecona and between Amposta and La Galera. It was an important resting point for wayfarers and transhumant cattle herders using the system of ancient passages known as lligallos in the past. The town had roadside inns where travelers could rest and recover from the day's journey and it still has some mid-range hotels and restaurants. The RENFE railway line from Valencia to Tortosa used to pass through this town before 1990. Amposta
Amposta () is the capital of the '' comarca'' of Montsià, in the province of Tarragona, Catalonia, Spain, 190 km south of Barcelona on the Mediterranean Coast. It is located at 8 metres above sea level, on the Ebre river, not far from its mouth. Its population was 20,606 in 2018. The GR 92 long distance footpath, which roughly follows the length of the Mediterranean coast of Spain, has a staging point at Amposta. Freginals is a municipality in the ''comarca'' of Montsià in Catalonia, Spain. This town is located on a hill between the northern end of the Serra de Godall and the Serra del Montsià, not far from the forking of the roads between Tortosa, Ulldecona and Amposta. La Galera is a municipality in the comarca Montsià, in the province of Tarragona, Catalonia, Spain. In 2009 its population was 884. La Galera is part of the Taula del Sénia free association of municipalities. History Although it has not been possible to prove it with documents, some historians believe that La Galera has an ancient Roman origin. However, the earliest documentary evidence about the town is in 1320 when James II of Aragon authorized the control of the village known as ''Pobla de la Galera'' to the Archbishop of Tortosa. Mas de Barberans is a municipality in the ''comarca'' of Montsià in Catalonia, Spain. It is part of the Taula del Sénia free association of municipalities. Local crafts This town is located at the feet of the eastern edge of the Ports de Tortosa-Beseit. The inhabitants have traditionally specialized in weaving and making basketry articles with the leaves of the Mediterranean Fan Palm, locally known as ''paumes''. The Taula del Sénia () or Mancomunitat de la Taula del Sénia is a commonwealth or free association of municipalities made up of 22 towns, totalling up to 100,000 people, of some of the comarcas that make up the center of the historical region of Ilercavonia (present day southern Aragon and Catalonia, and northern Valencia), Spain. The origin of the name lies in the fact that all municipal terms involved are located within 15 km of the Sénia River, perceived as the centre of the region in its upper course. Goals The Taula del Sénia's main purpose is to alleviate the historical neglect of this greater comarca by managing its public municipal resources meaningfully. This is a list of the 42 ''comarques'' (singular ''comarca'', , ) into which Catalonia is divided. A '' comarca'' is a group of municipalities, roughly equivalent to a county in the US or a district or council in the UK. However, in the context of Catalonia, the term "county" can be a bit misleading, because in medieval Catalonia, aside from the kings of Aragon, the most important rulers were counts, notably the Counts of Barcelona and of Urgell.
