The Public Force of Costa Rica ( es, Fuerza Pública de Costa Rica) is the Costa Rican national law enforcement force, which performs policing and border patrol functions. History On 1 December 1948, President José Figueres Ferrer of Costa Rica abolished the military of Costa Rica after achieving victory in the Costa Rican Civil War that year. In a ceremony in the , in the capital San José, Figueres broke a wall with a mallet symbolizing an end to Costa Rica's military services. In 1949, the abolition of the military was introduced in Article 12 of the Constitution of Costa Rica. Air Vigilance Service
There is officially no Air Force of Costa Rica; the only air wing in existence is attached to the Public Force of Costa Rica. Currently this unit, officially called Air Vigilance Service ( es, Servicio de Vigilancia Aérea (SVA)), also called the Air Service (''Servicio Aéreo''), does not operate any armed military aircraft. Its main air bases located in three different points, San José, Costa Rica, San José (Base 2) being the main operations center. The Jericho 941 is a double-action/single-action semi-automatic pistol developed by Israel Military Industries (now Israel Weapon Industries) introduced in 1990.
