The Armed Forces of the Republic of Uzbekistan ( uz, Ўзбекистон Республикаси Қуролли Кучлари), is the name of the unified armed forces of Uzbekistan, consisting of the Ground Force and the Air and Air Defence forces under the defence ministry. Paramilitary units include the National Guard, a Frontier Service and a River Force. It is reported to be the largest, and the strongest in Central Asia. 'The country asalso began professionalizing its military, an effort that has only limited success and erratic government support. But even in Uzbekistan, these changes represent merely a modest beginning and most of the benefits are concentrated in a few elite, higher readiness formations rather than uniformly applied to the entire force. Uzbekistan Air And Air Defence Forces
The Air and Air Defence Forces (; ) are the aerial arm of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Uzbekistan. It was formed following the collapse of the Soviet Union, in 1991, though the military was not created by the Uzbek government until 1992. The Air Force consists of 10,000 to 15,000 personnel in 2006, with most of them being Russians as of 1995. Uzbekistan Frontier Service
The Frontier Service, officially called the Committee for State Border Protection of the National Security Service ( uz, Milliy xavfsizlik xizmatining Davlat chegaralarini qo'riqlash qo'mitasi) and commonly referred to as the National Border Guard, is a department of the military and National Security Service of Uzbekistan responsible for border security, part of the Security Service since 2005. Structure Navy A small riverine naval force is operated by the Frontier Service on the Amu Darya river, with two Gurza-class gunboats in service as well as other small craft. The Chirchiq Higher Tank Command and Engineering School (), formerly the Tashkent Order of Lenin Higher Tank Command School named after Pavel Rybalko () is a military academy of the Ministry of Defense of Uzbekistan, responsible for training armored and engineering personnel of the Uzbekistan Ground Forces. Established in 1918 as the Nizhny Novgorod Infantry Courses, it became an infantry school in 1921 and was converted into a tank school in 1932, training tank commanders for the expanding Soviet armored forces. It relocated to Kharkov in 1938 and was evacuated to Chirchiq in September 1941 following Operation Barbarossa, the German invasion of the Soviet Union during World War II. Tashkent Higher All-Arms Command School
The Tashkent Higher All-Arms Command School () was a military academy of the Ministry of Defense of Uzbekistan. It was previously known as the Tashkent Higher Combined Arms Command School named after Vladimir Lenin (). It was one of the oldest military establishments of the USSR preparing infantry officers for the Soviet Army. The school was disbanded after former Uzbek SSR gained independence in 1991 and became the Republic of Uzbekistan.
