Miami RedHawks Football Seasons
The Miami RedHawks college football team compete as part of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I Football Bowl Subdivision, representing the Miami University in the Eastern Division of the Mid-American Conference (MAC). Miami has played their home games at Yager Stadium in Oxford, Ohio since 1983. Miami has 23 conference championships with 12 postseason bowl game appearances and 7 bowl game victories. The RedHawks have also had 13 undefeated seasons, a longest winning streak of 14 games between 2003 and 2004 and a home winning streak of 14 games between 1973 and 1975, and also between 1980 and 1982. Football was introduced to the university in 1888. The first win in the history of the program came the following year, a 44–0 shutout over Dayton High School on November 9, 1889. The Miami RedHawks football (known as the Miami Redskins before 1996) program represents Miami University, located in Oxford, Ohio, in college football at the NCAA Division I FBS level. The RedHawks compete in the Mid-American Conference and are known for producing several high-profile head coaches, earning it the nickname "Cradle of Coaches". The 1888 Miami Redskins football team was an American football team that represented Miami University during the 1888 college football season. The 1888 team was Miami's first football team to compete in intercollegiate football. The team played only one game, a scoreless tie with the University of Cincinnati football team at Oxford, Ohio, on December 8, 1888. The team did not have a paid coach from 1888 to 1894. The 1888 game between Cincinnati and Miami was the first in what later became the Victory Bell series that has been included more than 110 games and is one of the oldest rivalries in college football. Edwin Sweetland
Edwin Regur Sweetland (January 10, 1875 – October 21, 1950) was a coach, trainer, and athletic administrator at several American universities. During his coaching career he was head coach of many sports including basketball, track and field and crew, but the majority of for his coaching work was in football. Though mainly known for football, he left his mark on several college athletics departments and other sports. This includes being the first athletic trainer at Ohio State University, the first paid coach of the Kentucky Wildcats men's basketball team, and the first coach of Syracuse University rowing team. Harold Iddings
Harold Jonathan Iddings (May 16, 1885 – August 25, 1952) was an American football player and coach of football, basketball and track and field. A 1909 graduate from the University of Chicago, he served as head football coach at Miami University from 1909 to 1910, at Simpson College from 1911 to 1913, at Otterbein College in 1916, and at Penn College—now known as William Penn University—in Oskaloosa, Iowa, in 1921, compiling a career college football record of 16–26–1. Amos Parker Foster (March 10, 1880 – August 7, 1952) was an American football and basketball player and coach in the early 1900s. He was a 1904 graduate of Dartmouth College where he Letterman (sports), lettered in both basketball and football. Foster served as the head football coach at the University of Cincinnati (1904–1905), the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, University of Nebraska (1906), and Miami University (1907–1908), compiling a career college football mark of 30–9. Arthur K. Smith was an American college football player and coach in the early 1900s. He was a 1903 graduate of Dartmouth College where he played football. In 1904, he served as head football coach of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, compiling a record of 1–5. Playing career Smith lettered in football in 1901 and 1902 at Dartmouth under coach Walter McCornack. Thomas Robert Hazzard (October 24, 1871 – February 10, 1957) was an American football player and coach, minister, farmer, missionary, and riveter. He served as the head football coach at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, in 1901, compiling a record of 1–3–1.
