Maria Schneider (born 9 February 1923) is a German former (SED) politician. She was a member of the East German State Council between 1967 and 1971. Life Maria Schneider was born in Merka (Měrkow) a rural German settlement then of approximately 160 inhabitants, 10 km (6 miles) north of Bautzen and approximately 25 km (15 miles) north of the frontier with a recently created country called Czechoslovakia. Her father was a Sorbian farm worker. She left school at fifteen and embarked on a three-year commercial apprenticeship which lasted from 1938 till 1941. After this she worked as a commercial assistant and secretary. In May 1945, World War II ended and with it, the Hitler regime fell. In Germany, political parties and organisations that had been banned under the Nazis were no longer banned, and on 10 May 1945 the main Sorbian organization, Domowina, was reinstated just five days after the end of hostilities in this part of Germany. Maria-Hélène Schneider (27 March 1952 – 3 February 2011), known professionally as Maria Schneider, was a French actress. In 1972, at the age of 19, she starred opposite Marlon Brando in ''Last Tango in Paris'', but being traumatised by a rape scene and hounded by unsavoury publicity negatively affected her subsequent career. Although Michelangelo Antonioni's '' The Passenger'' (1975) showcased her abilities, a reputation for walking out of films mid-production resulted in her becoming unwelcome in the industry. However, she re-established stability in her personal and professional life in the early 1980s, and became an advocate for equality and improving the conditions actresses worked under. She continued acting in film and TV until a few years before she died in 2011 after a long illness. Maria Lynn Schneider (born November 27, 1960) is an American composer and jazz orchestra leader who has won multiple Grammy Awards. Biography Born in Windom, Minnesota, Schneider studied music theory and composition at the University of Minnesota, graduating in 1983, then earned a master's degree in Music in 1985 from the Eastman School of Music, studying for one year as well at the University of Miami. After leaving Eastman, she was hired by Gil Evans as his copyist and assistant. She collaborated with Evans for the next few years, working with him on music for a tour with Sting and assisting him as he scored the film ''The Color of Money''. Before she became one of the most acclaimed composers and bandleaders of her generation, Schneider received an NEA Apprenticeship Grant to study with Bob Brookmeyer in 1985. Maria Schneider (born August 18, 1968) is an American humorist, cartoonist and illustrator best known for her work with the satirical online newspaper ''The Onion'' and her comic strip ''Pathetic Geek Stories''. Born and raised in Madison, Wisconsin, Schneider moved to New York City with the staff of ''The Onion'' in 2001. Her contributions include writing humor columns as a variety of characters: T. Herman Zweibel, Jean Teasdale and Herbert Kornfeld. Schneider's comic strip, ''Pathetic Geek Stories'', illustrates tales of pain and humiliation, usually during adolescence, sent to her by readers. In 2004, ''Pathetic Geek Stories'' formally ceased to be a feature in ''The Onion'', moving to its own website. The site had not been updated since November 2008.
