Marathi-language Television
The Marathi-language television industry was started in India in 1984. Although earlier confined to a half an hour slot in the national television Doordarshan, the industry has now expanded with many commercial TV channels currently on air. Various dedicated categories like news and movies have been added and have considerably expanded the horizon of Marathi TV entertainment. Marathi news channels Marathi television got its first round-the-clock news channel in the form of Saam TV in the year 2008 leading Marathi language News channel in the state. Nilesh Khare is the Channel Head and Editor of the channel since 2018. Zee 24 Taas was launched in 2007. Disney Star launched its Marathi news channel Star Majha in June 2007, which was later named as ABP Majha from 1 June 2012. Doordarshan (), abbreviated as DD, is India's State-owned enterprise, state-owned public broadcasting, public television broadcaster. Established by the Government of India on 15 September 1959, it is owned by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (India), Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and constitutes one of Prasar Bharati's two divisions. Doordarshan, one of India's largest broadcasting organisations in studio and transmitter infrastructure, delivers television, radio, online, and mobile services across metropolitan and regional India, and internationally. Prasar Bharati
Prasar Bharati (abbreviated as PB) () is India's state-owned public broadcaster, headquartered in New Delhi, India. It is a statutory autonomous body set up by an Act of Parliament. It comprises Doordarshan, the television broadcaster, and All India Radio, the radio broadcaster, both of which were previously media units of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. The Parliament of India passed the Prasar Bharati Act in 1990 to grant this autonomy, but it was not enacted until 15 September 1997. Navneet Kumar Sehgal, a retired bureaucrat, was appointed chairman of Prasar Bharati on 16 March 2024, following A. Surya Prakash's second term, which ended in February 2020. Discovery Channel India
Discovery Channel (often referred to as simply Discovery) is an Indian pay television channel owned by Warner Bros. Discovery for the Indian subcontinent. Launched on 15 August 1995. It is the Indian version of Discovery Channel. It is available in eight languages including Hindi, English, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Bengali and Marathi while the Tamil language has a separate dedicated channel DTamil.
