Astrid Mannes (born 2 January 1967) is a German author and politician ( CDU). From 2017 to 2021, she served as a member of the national parliament (''"Bundestag"''), directly elected as a member for constituency of Darmstadt. Early life and education Astrid Luise Mannes was born into a Protestant family in Hilden, a mid-sized industrial town a short distance to the east of Düsseldorf. She grew up in the town, where she attended the Helmholtz-Gymnasium (secondary school), successfully passing her school final exams (Abitur) in 1986. Clara Mannes (born Clara Damrosch; 12 December 1869, Breslau, Silesia – 16 March 1948, New York City) was a German-born American musician and music educator. She and her brother Frank Damrosch also taught at the Veltin School for Girls in Manhattan. With her husband, David Mannes, she founded the David Mannes Music School in 1916, now known as the Mannes School of Music at the New School. Mannes was born in Breslau. Her mother, Helene von Heimburg, was a former opera singer, and her father was conductor Leopold Damrosch. Her siblings were conductors Frank Damrosch and Walter Damrosch. David Mannes
David Mannes (16 February 186625 April 1959) was an American violinist, conductor, educator, and community organizer. Biography David Mannes was born in New York in 1866. He studied the violin in Harlem with composer and violinist John Thomas Douglass, the son of a freed slave, and later in Berlin with Karel Halíř. Mannes was a violinist in the New York Symphony Orchestra from 1891 and its concertmaster from 1898 to 1912. In 1912 he helped found the Colored Music Settlement School and in 1916, with his wife Clara Mannes (the daughter of Leopold Damrosch and sister of Walter Damrosch), the Mannes Music School, both in New York City. David Mannes was both a musician and an activist. He believed music to be a universal language, and that it could be used to bridge divides between races and social classes in America. Totte Mannes (born 1933 in Kajaani, Finland) is a visual artist whose oil paintings are on display in many museums and collections. She lives in Madrid. She has had nearly 90 sole exhibitions and over 80 collective exhibitions in 17 countries. Mannes Francken (1888–1948) was a Dutch football player, who played for HFC and the Dutch national team. Biography Francken started out as a goalkeeper, but quickly became a forward. He made his international debut for the Netherlands on 29 April 1906 in a 5-0 away defeat to Belgium. He would go on to play 22 caps, scoring 17 goals, including a then national record of three hat-tricks, all of which against Belgium. The Mánes Association of Fine Artists ( or ''S.V.U.''; commonly abbreviated as ''Manes'') was an artists' association and exhibition society founded in 1887 in Prague and named after painter Josef Mánes. The Manes was significant for its international exhibitions before and after World War I that encouraged interaction between Czech artists and the foreign avant-garde. It played an important role in the development of Czech Cubism and Rondocubism.
